You would need to be hiding under a rock to have not heard of the artist “ ”. From ARIA Chart-topping releases to touring both locally and internationally, Christian Pillot and Casper Tromp have made a solid name for themselves with their amazing smooth piano chords and riffs, funky baselines, and amazing vocals from massive names. These house music legends who have gained support from heavyweights such as Claptone, Gorgon City & DJ SKT seem destined for huge success.

Their 2016 single “Walk Right In” gained massive support from the likes of Danny Howard, Carl Cox, Hannah Wants and Billy Kenny, making Colour Castle a sought after name not just at home, but also abroad.

2017 saw three monster collaborations with international House Royalties Miguel Campbell “I Know A Place”, Doorly “Stay Hungry” & Yolanda “Love Addict” (Best known for her vocal on ‘Duke Dumont – Won’t Look Back’). All 3 singles peaked at #1 on the ARIA Club Charts and boast remixes from the likes of ‘Amine Edge & Dance, Dr.Packer, MAM and more.

2018 was another “non-stop ride” for Colour Castle, starting off with the launch of ‘Hot Sunday Records” which the first release saw them collaborate with none other than the voice of house music, Roland Clark, holding the #1 spot for 5 weeks. The second track “Can’t Buy This” reached #1 spot shortly after and held this position for another 4 weeks, with CR2 Records leading the release internationally.

2019 has been another successful year for Colour Castle, with a number of releases also reaching the #1 spot (I see a trend here!), and now with their inaugural LIVE performance about to launch at OneSixOne in Melbourne on Friday 27th September.

Colour Castle took a moment with OzClubbers to sit down and chat leading up to the live show launch.

Thanks Christian for taking some time out to chat to us.
You started Colour Castle as your alter ego back in 2014 after moving from Airlie Beach to Sydney. Where did the name “Colour Castle” come from, and what inspired you to form Colour Castle?

I really wanted a unique name that has never been used before and that probably will never be used again. I had jotted down hundreds of ideas and start mashing them together. Somehow ended up with Colour Castle and thought it sounded cool, threw it into google and nobody else had used it before so ran with it.

You joined forces with Sydney’s renown theatre pianist and composer Casper Tromp after receiving piano lessons from him. What difference did Casper make to the Colour Castle sound?

Once we started to work together the sound evolved from primarily club focused productions to a variety of jazzy, housey songs & more experimenting with different gear and melodies. The main focus of Colour Castle has always been to create vocal driven singles that fit in both nightclubs and on your Spotify. With Casper things have become more musical, and our aim is to eventually play all the gigs together, with the first taste this Friday at Onesixone. Il be DJing while Casper plays various synths and hardware.

Hot Sunday Records was the label you started in 2018 and has just gone from strength to strength, with several tracks nominated for the ARIA awards. Can you tell us how HSR came about and what inspired you to create your own label?

Really wanted to create my own brand and community.

So many Colour Castle tracks easily get into the Aria Club Charts, with many even reaching the #1 spot on a regular basis. Is there a formula you both use to producing such winning tracks time after time?

We really just go to great length to make sure the production is top notch, always striving to have a solid big vocal and instrumental. The remixes are selected carefully so we have a different genre for a variety of DJs to play throughout a night.

The integration of Casper to Colour Castle naturally offered the opportunity to bring the live element to your act, with your first live show at Melbourne’s legendary OneSixOne in Prahran this Fri 27th Sept. What can we expect from Colour Castle at your inaugural live show?

Casper has set up around 20 different sounds through his laptop and saved presets on his moog. I will playing tracks without a bassline and Casper will fill it in live, or perhaps a lead. Playing together will give us a nice extra element to the normal DJ set.

Can you name a few artists and tracks that you are really digging right now?

There are a few people I am digging atm. Johan S, ANOTR, KINK, Ode To 75, Litmus, Demuir, Hataris, Supermini, Buried King, Stephen Nicholls, JPA, Tom Evans, Marco Lys, Mike Dunn, honestly I could go on forever hahaha. I have recently published 2 new Traxsource charts for Colour Castle that are worth checking out.

And finally, what can we expect to see from Colour Castle in the next 12 months or so?

We actually have a full 12 month plan, with single spread across. This year alone our release Over The Water w JAW & Tim light Sep 27th. Single Handbag House coming via Valiant at the end of October. A collaboration with Birdee & Buried King on Blacksoul Music in Nov. A massive single with Supermini will sneak in before the years end. Next year is just as exciting with some international labels joining the party 🙂
