Inkswel is an artist who has been turning heads for several years now with his no holds barred across the board production style. His is just as likely to drop a hop hop gem as a broken beat club jam or a house smash.
His latest EP lands this week on Kraak & Smaak’s Boogie Angst label and it’s another across the board masterpiece featuring two original tracks and three quality remixes including remixes from big LV online favourites Cody Currie and Thatmanmonkz.
Kicking the EP off is the feel-good hip-house jam Too Late which features Stan Smith on vocal duties. In your face synth notes, brilliant drum programming and a strong vocal performance all play their part in what is a super hooky and unique track.
Up next is a real ear worm of a track in The People featuring Dave Aju on vocals. Powerful broken beats, funk-fueled bass and a Moodymann-esque vocal delivery are all tied together by some great work on the synths. It’s a track which demands to be played over and over.
The first of the remixes see’s UK Underground don Thatmanmonkz deconstruct Too Late also getting in on the broken beat action. Upping the BPM and the energy he’s taken it off towards the dancefloor as the drums get those feet moving perfectly.
Next in line is super hot London producer Cody Currie who has taken The People off into smooth deep house territory. Subtle jazz influenced keys, powerful drums and smooth pads all envelope the vocal beautifully. It’s a really wonderful re-imagining of the track.
The final mix is Inkswel’s drum dub of The People which adds just a touch of the funky stuff to the original and opens it up to a wider range of dancefloors.
Properly nice work all around!
