Valentino Khan‘s latest single, “Digest,” features the lyrical talents of young rappers Wifisfuneral and YBN Almighty Jay. The Four Loko Records track audibly strays from many of Khan’s Mad Decent offerings—a hip-hop beat rather than a hardstyle or electro-leaning dance cut. The stylistic sidestep is however a return to roots for the mustachioed beatsmith.
Khan actually began his career outside of the confines of dance music, producing rap beats for artists including T.I., 2 Chainz, and B.o.B. He then embraced his calling as an electronic music producer after co-producing Major Lazer’s 2013 hit, “Bubble Butt.” Khan explained,
“Tapped back into my roots as a hip-hop producer. I got in the studio with Wifi [and] Almighty Jay and they delivered in a big way. Enjoy.”
Just because “Digest” occupies a different soundscape than “Deep Down Low” doesn’t mean it wouldn’t do equally well in a festival setting. In fact, Wifisfuneral and YBN Almighty Jay’s heated flows over Khan’s distorted piano guarantee an elevation heart rate. Stream “Digest” below.
