This week at Dragonfruit Fridays:
JYDN (Recovery Collective - Melbourne) +
LE'BRUH ( Pelican Villa - Melbourne)

Caught up in some sort of deep emotional abstraction between House, Techno & Electronica. Inspired by the balance of dark and dreamy, melodic and rhythmic detail of artists such as Extrawelt, Stephan Bodzin, Recondite & Tale Of Us - all crafted to encapsulate the audience with the movement and nature of each musical enlightenment.

Jydn - recognised as one of one of the hardest working emerging artists of the dance music scene in Melbourne at the moment.

Co-founder of Recovery Collective. A forward thinking, local Melbourne-based movement with a creative visionary and an aim for providing a fresh educational vehicle within the electronic music community. By showcasing emerging artists and undiscovered sounds alike, constantly striving to increase awareness and appreciation for quality electronic music.

2015 was introductory. Jiayden, at a mere 20 years old. Jumped on an open-ended musical adventure after he finished studying which resulted in his first season on the beautiful and ever so magical island they call Ibiza. Here he lived for almost 6 months and networked around the island. During this period he played a number of gigs at the notorious Sankeys Ibiza, Savannah Beach Club and held weekly residencies with both Ibiza Beatz & Capadi Rebels boat parties.

He returned again for a second season the year later in 2016, to of which he held the Recovery Collective second birthday celebrations. ’Two Years’ was a series of showcases held across Melbourne and Ibiza, including a concurrent party being run on opposite sides of the globe at the same time, linked via a series of live streams.

The determination to pay homage to the Australian scene over the summer seasons is what drives Jiayden to return back from his overseas expeditions each year. His previous involvement spans Australia wide with brands such as Babylon, Rabbits Eat Lettuce, Rainbow Serpent, Earthcore and more.

Ambition x Persistence x Diversity

Captain of the famed Pelican Villa renegade crew, curator and resident of Circus Sundays and resident DJ at Revolver Upstairs.

Le'bruh has unravelled with unquestionable momentum through Melbourne's iconic underground house & techno scene. This has created a blissfully chaotic force of energy wherever he plays turning heads and moving hearts with his arsenal of sounds waiting to resonate with you.

Trying hard to not be boxed into a particular sound Le Bruh adopts an ever-evolving taste and style, which reflects in the diversity of sets he can play. From open to close, start to finish his ability to adapt to the moment is a strong point which has guided him onto the biggest stages in the outdoor Australian festival scene and seen him behind the decks at some of Melbourne's most well renowned musical institutions.

Taya is touring Australia for his new EP ‘VALHALLA’ on Bassic Records. Playing at some of Australia’s greatest venues in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Central Coast and Byron Bay.

Catch him playing at Capulet this week for his debut at Dragonfruit Fridays alongside AVAXA who also joins us for the first time in the garden. Christian Kerr and Jesse Kuch on support duties!

T A Y A ' S . B I O G R A P H Y :

TAYA has truly weaponized groove, formulating deep, darkened tech-house blended with progressive jaunts. Cultivating his unique sound with the Bassic Records family, TAYA’s debut EP “Perception”, remixed by Matan Caspi and Thankyou City, earnt huge support and 5-star ratings from Beckers, Cid Inc, Jamie Stevens and tastemakers including Decoded Magazine and Progressive House Worldwide. His January 2018 EP “Valhalla” included remixes by Gabriel Moraes and The Note V, a smooth yet ferocious experiment with low swung drive, has had names like Nicole Moudabber, Soul Button, Hoj and Gab Rhome snatching it up, with a 12 stop national tour just for good measure.

2017 saw TAYA’s skill and determination win Beatport’s Beat's In School Producer Scholarship with Yousef’s Circus Recordings. Consequently, TAYA is the newest member of Circus Recordings alongside a hefty list of the world’s most prominent names: Carl Cox, Green Velvet, Jamie Jones, Sasha, Hot Since 82, Joris Voorn, Yousef himself and many more. 2018 is set to be TAYA’s biggest year by far, with “Love Get No Enemy” a part of the heavily charting Open Records’ “Expansion Pack 2”, imminent remixes of Doppel on Bassic, of Pantheon on Ugenius, and of course his fated EP with Circus Recordings.

TAYA’s passionate approach has led him to feature regularly at festivals Splendour In The Grass, Falls, Rabbits Eat Lettuce, Bohemian Beatfreaks and Bizarre Garden. It became commonplace to be first choice support for acts including Claptone, Dusky, Jay Lumen, Catz n Dogz, DJ T, Kolombo, Doorly, Flight Facilities and Rufus: additional to residencies and regular slots at Jenja Bali, Elsewhere, La La Land, The Northern and Capulet. The diversity in the TAYA sound blurs boundaries for genre devotees, never failing to have all bodies on the dance-floor moving not matter the setting.

Birthed of the doof scene in the surrounding hills of Byron Bay, Taya was brought up into a life rich with musical influence, experimenting with live music from the tender age of 9, approaching DJing at 13 and immersing himself into the world of production at 15. Playing a big part in the NSW north coast psytrance scene as a teenager, Taya made the move to house and techno at his coming of age. From Europe to USA to Indonesia and time spent calling Berlin and Bali home has exposed him to musing that has led the way to growth into the modern TAYA sound

La Vibrations returns in full colours in 2018, with some influential and inspirational artists who are showcasing their flavour of techno. This summer season we present to you SLY FAUX (MOOD/MELB) and MADE IN PARIS (UPPER ACCESS/SYD). They both are currently on upcoming EP tours around Australia and internationally this year.

Blurring the lines between a contemporary DJ set and live show, Sly Faux manages to merge the two seamlessly, to deliver a unified, mechanical and straight up set. Incorporating the use of controllers, drum samplers, and other devices allows him create on- the- fly edits and remixes which add variety and a sense of spontaneity to the performance. Expect rolling bass with Everest buildup that will send any audience into a frenzy at a moments notice.

Furthermore, Sly Faux has an established catalogue of releases and has also received support from artists such as Richie Hawtin, Len Faki, Sam Paganini Maceo Plex and of coarse, Nicole Moudabar.

Eelke Kleijn is a rare talent. With work stretching across film scores, deep live shows and incredibly well formed production, he crosses a boundary from electronic producer and into a true modern day composer. With peers and tastemakers standing up for this unmistakable imagination, the Rotterdam based music maker’s potential has no bounds.

Eelke has released two albums and an array of first class remixes for the likes of John Legend and originals including his single “Celebrate Life” that was hand picked as BBC Radio 1’s ‘Essential New Tune.’ Sony to Eskimo Recordings to Suara have seen the young Dutchman’s vision in productions become world heard.

Defying limitations as an electronic artist, his work as a Hollywood ‘soundtracker’ has been seen in Parker, The Crossing, Wrath of the Titans, This Means War and Ron Howard’s Rush trailer. His career is in a constant accelerating push to the top and 2016 was no exception. Venturing to Seoul to perform in South Korea for the first time ever, he celebrated stand out performances around the globe in Los Angeles, New York, Argentina and several other night long sets as well.

Furthering his cinematic endeavors, Eelke Kleijn released his bootleg for The Hunger Games song “The Hanging Tree” by James Newton Howard featuring leading lady Jennifer Lawrence. Having also built a new studio last year, Eelke spent much of his time creating new music leading up to the launch of his new imprint DAYS like NIGHTS.

Open Records is proud to present a killer new event featuring Melbourne's The Journey (UGENIUS Music/Ein2) on headline duties, alongside the Brisbane club debut of Apro + Wilma!

Featuring a full decor and theming courtesy of Melt, stellar sound from Void Acoustics and big support from Open Records and Melt residents, this is afternoon and evening of tunes at Capulet you won't want to miss. Let's party!

After the best part of 10 years learning, becoming, and now sculpting Australia’s House & Techno scene, Tom Evans and Jacob Malmo decided to pool their creative talents and energies together for something greater. Enter: The Journey.

The concept for ‘The Journey’ began one Winter's morning on the way home from an elaborate night out. They recently released their debut single Principium on their own imprint UGENIUS Music. Principium as well as the Jamie Stevens Remix was well received globally from artists such as Hernan Cataneo, Matthias Meyer, Emanuel Satie & Tim Englehardt to name a few. In Australia it reached number 9 in the ARIA Club Chart stayed in the top 50 for 10 weeks, an outstanding achievement for a techno record.

Towards the end of 2016, The Journey was asked to remix the re-release of an iconic Australian anthem in Yothu Yindi - Treaty’. Treaty also reached number 9 on the ARIA Club Chart and was a prominent feature amongst a number of sets at this year’s Rainbow Serpent Festival.

In recent times, The Journey have warmed up for the likes of Booka Shade, Dubfire, M.A.N.D.Y, Space Dimension Controller, Reiner Zonneveld and Mat Joe. As well as being added to the line-up at Electric Garden, Babylon, Piknik Electronic and Tell No Tale festivals alongside the likes of Eric Prydz, Ricardo Villalobos, Sasha, Pan Pot, Francios K, and many more.

Capping off a stellar 2017 with the release of The Toad on Open Records, we're proud to welcome The Journey back to Brisbane!
