Following our launch event with Fouk in January — as well as a few other Attic guest appearances around the place — we can now announce our second

 event: this time, hosting Nachtbraker!

We'll be back at The Civic Underground for this on Friday, 5 May — and kicking off at nine o'clock.

Tickets are available via Resident Advisor, .

Line-up, as follows:

NACHTBRAKER

(Quartet Series, Dirt Crew, Heist)

Simon Caldwell

(Mad Racket / FBi Radio)

Andrew Fazzolari

Brendan Clay

About Nachtbraker:

After receiving widespread recognition for books such as 'How Does He Do It?' and 'Glorious Misunderstandings', Maurits Verwoerd decided to start a career as a music producer.

Though few doubted his skills as an artist, most of Maurits' neighbours thought a little differently about his compositions, causing him to start producing music in the underground dungeons of Amsterdam.

Coming out occasionally — but only at night — slowly made him well-known among friends and enemies as Nachtbraker: Dutch for "night hawk".

The signs of exposure to a wide range of genres are clearly audible in his music, ranging from ecstatic slow grooves to unconventional dub tracks. Critics often praise him for adopting a wide pallet of sounds with subtle, intricate percussion.

While his celebrated performances receive increasing recognition, it’s unquestionable that Nachtbraker will keep a lot of people comfortably awake for many years to come.

Nachtbraker has a wealth of strong releases on imprints such as Quartet Series — his own label — Dirt Crew Recordings, Heist Recordings and Hudd Traxx — to name just a few.

---

'Attic' is the brainchild of Sydney jocks, Brendan Clay and Andrew Fazzolari; devised as a medium to promote their love for low, slow grooves, thick basslines and loose, swinging drums.

Attic is tailored to those searching for an avenue for deep, soulful, disco-infused and melodically-inclined house music.

Fundamentally, its focus is the promotion of quality, hand-picked local talent, foremost; regularly showcasing selectors from around the globe who mirror its style and vision.

deep • low-slung • disco

---

The Civic Underground is located within The Civic Hotel, 388 Pitt Street, Sydney — on the corner of Pitt and Goulburn Street.

      Prohibition Fridays presents ANOTR (Amsterdam)

Free Entry! No Lockout! VIP Booths available!
      https://soundcloud.com/anotr
      https://www.facebook.com/anotr.music/

From the early career stages in an Amsterdam attic studio to being called “a breath of fresh air”, “producers to watch”, and “future superstar DJs”, the importance of commitment and patience is once again underlined by the prime example presented right before your eyes: ANOTR.
Consisting of 21 year olds Jesse van der Heijden and Oguzhan Guney, ANOTR are the house-meets-techhouse revelations of their time.
After hours and hours of hard work and tweaks to reach undisputed perfection, the first eye-opening works of the Amsterdam based sparked the interest of record label Armada Music, subsequently leading to the release of summer anthem ‘Strobe’ on Defected records breakout label DFTD in early October 2015.

Despite their tender age, ANOTR have played on summer festival hotspot Ibiza, rewarded their fans with multiple DJ performances during Europe’s main dance music conference Amsterdam Dance Event, and graced plenty more internationally acclaimed clubs, venues, and festivals with their distinctive sound, and unmatched, on-stage energy.
With plenty of remixes, EPs, and experimental compositions looming on the horizon, the vast expansion of ANOTR’s foothold in Electronic music territory had already begun. Where and if it will end, nobody
knows. But once thing’s unmistakably certain. ANOTR are fresh, consistent, and more than sufficiently talented to aim for music world domination.

Subtrakt are pleased to announce the next artist they'll be hosting for his debut Brisbane show is German house DJ/ Producer, Sven Weisemann.

Despite his young age, Weisemann has been DJing since 1997. His musical infuences ranges from Classic, Soundtracks, Soul and Jazz, Deep House and Dub to his beloved Detroit Techno and US House.

As a producer, his music draws deeply on the legacy of Chicago and Detroit, yet somehow manages to end up sounding as fresh as a daisy - records such as 'Vibe' and 'Slices' are house music that is half atmosphere and half beats, and not afraid to take its sweet time to lull the foor with their charms.

A self-taught musician who plays piano, acoustic guitar and percussion, Weisemann also composes jazz and soundtracks - traditions which also inform his house records no doubt, many of which you can find on Meanwhile, House Café Music, Apple Pips, Kann, a.r.t.less, Wandering, Liebe*Detail, Real Soon, Styrax Leaves, Essays, Freund Der Familie, Fauxpas Musik, Echocord, Delsin, Telrae, Just Another Beat and especially Mojuba, where Weisemann's music slots together with friends Nick Solé and Oracy to form a distinct, and highly collectible, label sound.

Local supports: Jimmy Ellis & Cam Lee

Here is my recorded set from last Sunday evening, closing up S*A*S*H By Day: the daytime stanza of the amazingly strong and ever-consistent weekly event.
I played right after the day's headliner, Scottish house guru, Jasper James. The crowd—as is always the case with S*A*S*H—were extremely welcoming and certainly up-for-it, and lapped up the unseasonal warmer Sydney vibes with an abundance of smiles!
This set contains some driving, melodic disco house vibes, some deeper house selections—some of which I've not enjoyed for a little while—and concludes on a faster, more pumping tip; a staple for the weekly event, really.
Many thanks and much love to the S*A*S*H crew for the booking, the hospitality, and the warm and fuzzies—particularly Cris, for his full encouragement and belief that, hey, I can play a closing set! Much love to the regular S*A*S*H party people, too, who somehow make this Sunday shindig one of the strongest, most consistent events our fair city has ever seen!
I had a whole lot of fun delivering this one, and hope that is also translated via the stream/download.
      Enjoy!

    • Hope all is well in your paradise. The invitation for the infamous City-Bush-Doof, aka CBD, is officially official! As the name suggests, the CBD is a music-based event set to the backdrop of Brisbane’s suburban jungle.

The City Bush Doof evolved as an idea that began as a lunch in the park and quickly turned into an all out party after receiving huge support on Facebook . Since it’s offical release on the 30th of September, first round tickets have already sold out! With over five thousand people interested in attending the event before the announcement of a lineup or venue, it’s no surprise that the City Bush Doof promises to be a defining event of 2017.  If you’re into dance music and good vibes, this is one Sunday sesh you won’t want to miss.

Although the initial plan was to occupy public land in St Lucia, our application with the council was rejected, so we have had to move to a new location and will post closer to the date.

The CBD was inspired with the aim of bringing just a small group of family and friends closer together but with so much interest and excitement, we opened the event to the public. Since, it's become a music-based event built on positivity, happiness and a mutual love of doof. So please please please take the opportunity to spend time with your bretheren and bask in the love.

Originally, we planned to run the event on donations but in order to host the best event possible, we needed more funds - and have since released tickets (check the link above). This year's event is on a Sunday and we're hosting a range of local and national artists.

Updates will be provided as we approach the event date.

We can't wait to see you there!

    • Hi everyone,

I hope i don't offend anyone in asking this, but was exactly is Techno?  I see so many events popping up on facebook and here that are Techno events, but i really don't know what it is.

Can someone please post some links to some music that is classified as Techno?  I guess there's subgenres of Techno too, so if you have any information about the sub genres also, that would be really helpful!

      Thanks
