Recently I got to go check out the official Outlook Festival Queensland launch party in Brisbane. Presented by Quality Street Byron Bay, the event concept paid tribute to one of Europe’s most exciting Drum and Bass festivals and is a celebration of sound system culture.

The European Outlook festival is on the bucket list of most diehard DNB fans so to be offered an aussie installment was an absolute treat. Hosted by The Brightside in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, the venue really suited the event.

As I arrived I walked into a energetic vibe and the DNB was in full swing.  With a line up featuring artists from the UK and interstate I was spoiled for choice. One of my personal favourites De La Haye played b2b with Kosha D and played some really funky liquid drum and bass.

The pair are always a treat to watch and they really set the mood for the event for me. Followed up by Static Structures featuring Baptiste and Dub Phizix feat Chunky who played some really nice deep DNB the artists were quality.

The space was large enough for the crowd and drinks are actually really cheap at this venue with the option for food at the little food canteen out the front. The venue has a number of toilets inside which is awesome because generally there is never enough toilets for everyone. The only downfall to this event was the sound quality with the venue clearly due for an upgrade to their speakers.

The after party kicked on at Capulet, which for me is one of my favourite venues in Brisbane. If you haven’t been to this bar make sure you go check it out. The after party filled the venue. There was many smiling faces, people were dancing and the music was perfect with Tech House playing. My personal favourite was 8Man & Walrii in the main bar and then the DNB in the side area at Montague. There is not much more you can really ask for with a combined event like this.

Overall, I really enjoyed this event - the music, the performers, the punters, the venues were an excellent choice and the security at both events were actually pretty friendly. I saw some familiar faces at both events but also a few new faces, so it was nice to see this event drew out some new people.

I can’t wait to see what else Quality Street brings to us in the future.

ULTRA AUSTRALIA DELIVERS A TRULY STUNNING AND FLAWLESS DEBUT EDITION OF ‘ROAD TO ULTRA’
MELBOURNE PAVES WAY FOR HUGE 2019 EXPANSION

Anticipation of Ultra Worldwide’s first foray into the land known universally as ‘Down Under,’ was at fever pitch and let there be no doubt, the event delivered and kept on delivering until the last record was played and the lights went out.
The day in Melbourne began with up-and-coming Artist Moe kicking off proceedings.  The energy levels at that point were already soaring as Home-grown stars: Mashd N Kutcher and DJ Tigerlilyfollowed suit, whilst Timmy Trumpet and Will Sparks (with guest vocalist Luciana) upped the ante and set the bar high for what was to follow.
As the infamous ‘Ultra Angels’ brought their world-famous routine to the ‘Sidney Myer Music Bowl,’ next level production lighting was activated as dusk led to dark.  Andrew Rayel who is much loved by Aussie audiences & no stranger to our shores, raised the energy levels & excitement in anticipation of KSHMR (where together with Carnage and Timmy Trumpet) expressed his delight at being on stage with both guys in Melbourne for the first time – where they performed their mega hit ‘Toca.’ Carnage by name and certainly carnage by nature, caused mayhem with his un-matchable energy and love of the microphone and this was of course the perfect lead up to Afrojack.  Afrojack and MC Ambush entertained the masses with old hits & new, leading up to the night’s finale.  It was Axwell’s closing set, (having played the same venue just a few years prior), that finally brought the curtain down with the final set, but not before blowing the minds of all in attendance.
Event organisers said: “We are thrilled with the response to our very first ‘Ultra Australia’ / ‘Road to Ultra’ event and are speechless with the turnout, behaviour and respect of our fans who’ve travelled from overseas and across Australia to be in Melbourne.  We couldn’t have hoped for better and it is YOU, our fans, who have paved the way for greater things in 2019! See you next year in Melbourne & Sydney!!”
Road to Ultra is a collaboration between: Ultra Worldwide, PSV Group Australia, WAO Event Management & Lucky Entertainment.

‘Road to Ultra’ to be the first Festival to use Scantek ID scanning technology at their event

Scantek is an Australian owned and developed ID scanning solution, trusted by Australia's most prestigious venues.  It is the quickest and intelligent ID scanner that allows promoters to have a record of who has been into their venue/event.  They are able to use this information to keep track of any people who have been banned or caused incidents at previous events.  It also prevents underage entry and ID misuse, rewarding repeat customers, setting up VIP lists or providing information to authorities.  Never before has this level of control been available and ‘Road to Ultra’ is proud to be the first Festival in Australia to utilise this innovative technology.
For more information, go to: scantek.com.au

      About Rukes:
Drew Ressler aka Rukes is considered the #1 DJ photographer in the world (named #1 in the ‘Greatest Music Photographers Right Now’ by Complex).  With natural talent and a lot of practice, he's been lucky enough to photograph the biggest Dance Music artists, events and festivals around the globe!
He's come a long way since his first foray into DJ and event photography in late 2003.  After moving to LA and tagging along with DJs for gigs at Avalon Hollywood, he began honing his skills and upgrading his equipment throughout 2004-2005.  In 2006 he quit his "real job" in the gaming industry to focus on photography full time, working for Avalon, Giant and Insomniac for the next few years in Los Angeles.  All that hard work paid off when he landed his first tour with Deadmau5 in 2009, traveling all over the globe with him.  From that point on, Rukes hasn't slowed down and can now be found jetting around the world on any given day with DJs such as Zedd or music festivals like Ultra!
With a huge social media following on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, his adventures around the world are followed by many!
