On the release of Celestal's hot new record Old School Romance and the accompanying remix package, we had a quick chat to Celestal about his journey so far including the making of Old School Romance.

GALLEON: So, what inspired you to start making music and at what age.
CELESTAL: It’s my father who gave my twin brother and I our artistic side. He’s an amazing chef and has always encouraged us from a very young age to pursue our musical dreams. Growing up listening to Funk, Brazilian and French it was a nice mix. I started getting into music at 7 years old. I was always a very good trombone player and my brother played the trumpet. You get the point, but it’s what got us where we are today, ambition, playing with our friends at school as well as playing sports. It was great.

G: Tell us about Old School Romance and how it came about.
C: It’s a song that fits me so well - a mix of dance pop, melancholy, a gimmick of guitar and a simple melody that can touch anybody for it is filled with all kinds of emotions. The title comes from Nashville influences, the city of Rachel Pearl, the singers hometown. Moscow is also an influence, being the guitarist’ hometown. Of course, Paris was a huge influence, being where I produced the song.  Each of us brought our own emotions and our own experiences to create this song.  The song is unique being filled with a mix of influences and a soft touch.

G: How did you choose the remix package (including Funkstar De Lux and Matthieu Koss) or was this chosen by your record label?
C: Funkstar de Luke well that came about my label and I can tell you I was pleased because it went all kinds of places and I loved every bit from the start. Bravo. Regarding Matthieu Koss, what can I say I love the guy. Not only is he from my hometown (I had no idea before I met him), but he has his own universe, a little malicious side to him and a lot of personality that make me want to dance and go somewhere. He’s so talented. His remix is amazing.

G: What is in the works for Celestal in the next 12 months? Is there an album in the pipeline, and will you be touring?
C: Lots of work, I’m working on a bunch of new songs. Two are almost finished, very different styles. I’m also going to be working on getting together with Rachel in the days to come and I have plans with this male vocal as well. I’m always thinking about new melodies and ideas so an EP is definitely the next step for me. I’m also working a lot on promo, productions for other artists, remixes… my agenda is pretty booked. But I promise you lots of new things will be coming in a near future !

G: What are your three biggest records right now?
C: If there is one song that I have stuck in my head at the moment it’s most deff “One Kiss” by Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa. Finally some good house pop is back on the airwaves. Someone that I’ve always admired over the years is David Guetta, I know it’s not original but this guy has me feeling all kinds of ways with his collab with Sia on “Flames”. It’s a beautiful song, it works and has so much energy and tenderness. And lastly I think I’ll choose Jonas Blue with his latest song “Rise” that is following the footsteps of his song prior to that “Mama”. The guy is so talented, as well as kind hearted with so much talent.

Frisson Records - Artist of the Week

To kick off our artist of the week feature we’ll be featuring an up and coming interstate DJ from Sydney who recently rocked our world at the Frission Records label party.

      Artist Name: King Friendly
      Label: Independent

      Tell us about yourself

I’m on the dance floor as often as I am producing music and DJing, I love everything about electronic music and really want to spread the positivity and inclusiveness that comes with it!

      What genre/styles do you play?

Progressive House predominantly but also play a lot of Tech House and House. Anything with a good groove usually gets played in my sets.

What got you into the scene/dj’ing/producing?

Attending Tomorrowland Belgium in 2012. It showed me the power of electronic music and how it can bring people from all over the world closer together. I was already interested in electronic music but this experience made me really want to pursue it.

Check out Tom's U-Tube channel  Here
        Who has influenced you musically?
I really started getting into electronic music through Avicii and Skrillex. Since then a whole bunch of artists like; Axwell, Eric Prydz, Deadmau5, Steve Angello, Camelphat, Kryder and many others have influenced my musical tastes.

What are you currently working on?

I’m working on incorporating more live elements to my productions, finishing up my Audio Engineering Degree as well as continuing to make videos to my youtube channel! I have some projects that are nearing completion and they will be up on youtube in the coming months as I get a bit better at video editing haha.

Tell us about your most recent gigs?

The Frisson Records Label Party in Brisbane was fantastic recently! Was great to in Brisbane and my next gig will be at the Beehive event in Sydney!

What can we expect from the future for King Friendly?

I want to continue to develop my production skills and continue to DJ to anyone and everyone! I would love to help show the generosity of the dance music community throughout my career and use it to create a fairer world for all.

What do people say about you?

I really pride myself in getting positive feedback from my DJ sets and try and go the extra step to research any event I play to ensure I have music that suits the venue as well as my set time. Whether it’s a smooth warm up set or high-energy headlining set I always try and play the best set to fit the vibe of the night.

Who have you enjoyed working with/hated the most?

I have been producing recently with OSKA from Sydney and it has been great to work on tracks with someone in the same location as me! As far as hating working with anyone, I haven’t, differences can makes life pretty interesting and if it’s not working out I just get through the project best I can and move on.

      What’s your day job?

Corporate Audio Visual Technician but occasionally Barista and Bartend as well.

What do you listen to in your downtime?

Anything, I love it all. From Classical to hardstyle I often end up in some interesting youtube rabbit holes of music.

What do you think about the Brisbane scene?

I was up for the weekend recently and had an absolute ball! There are still lots of great nights out in Sydney where I’m from but it definitely has a more relaxed feel in other cities. I
think that is really important for a decent clubbing culture to develop and be sustained.

Frisson Records is the creation of Mark Pridmore and his Czech Republic friend and label co-founder, Ctirad Koloja. The label is based mostly in Brisbane and currently focused on the styles of house, tech house and progressive.

OzClubbers attended a number of the very successful label parties hosted by Mark recently.  We thought it was time to spread the word on how they are helping local artists get exposure, get their music heard and helping people to enjoy what they do.
The first half of 2018 has seen the parties showcase exciting new talent, well established DJ’s and also friends of the label. The events have been all about the music and if you like supporting local talent and get into house and progressive then we strongly encourage you to check out their next event! Details Here.
So far events have seen performances by CAIN, Batchelo, TAGLO, Nafta, King Friendly, Avaxxa, Lifestream and MOTION.  For ALL THE VIBES, take a listen to CAIN and Lifestream going B2B at one of the parties Here

      About Frisson
With their industry experience already spanning several years, Mark and Ctirad have been involved with everything from performing and promoting to music journalism and artist management. It was their mutual love of electronic music and a desire to get further involved that made them decide to launch the label.   Young up and coming artist CAIN (Mark’s son) was also some of the reason behind the initial beginnings of Frisson. Cain and his friends were producing music and would struggle at times to find a label or a good outlet to promote and release their music. Initially Frisson was able to help them, but it didn’t stop there. Today they continue to assist new up and coming artists and create opportunities for those that are truly committed and passionate about their music. Tee'd up with Miami dubstep lord Jupe to make an epic dance/trap infusion with the addition of vocals from Aussie artist Savoi Coming off the back of a huge set at Splendour In The Grass 2017, Enschway will be playing Australia's national Listen Out Festival this September, arguably one of Austalia's biggest  He will also be taking the EP on a solo tour throughout July, hitting all capital cities in Aus plus a special show for NZ fans in Auckland  EP also includes Australian club aficionado Perto and Aussie young-gun Leotrix
Sydney-based Nic Schweighoffer aka Enschway, has once again teamed up with his mates throughout the global dance community to create the third EP in his infamous series of Friendschway EPs. On board for the third installment is Miami producer Jupe, Aussie artist Perto and the up and coming DJ, Leotrix, coming together to create an insanely eclectic three track EP ranging from EDM festival-ready drops to heaving club bangers.
On the lead single off the EP, Nic employs Miami producer Jupe and Australian singer/songwriter Savoi to construct ‘Make It Work’ an epic dance and trap infusion that would fit perfectly into any EDM headliners festival set. Aussie club aficionado Perto lends his production finesse on ‘Lose It’, a definite crowd favourite in all of Enschway’s recent shows, and newcomer Leotrix blends his fresh ears with Nic’s expertise for ‘Can’t Stay Here’ creating an insanely dark and intricate mix.

On the collaborations, Nic explained, “For Friendschway 3 I wanted to keep it short and sweet. Two super heavy disgusting tracks and one calmer more emotional song. The EP has been in the works for so long I’m just so happy it’s finally so close to release. I think Lose It w/ Perto has been finished for almost 2 years and has been the most anticipated release of ours. I’ve spent the last few months really trying to hone in on bettering the quality in the production so I’m hoping it shines through with this latest release. Hope everyone enjoys it. ”

After his absolutely huge set at 2017’s Splendour In The Grass and sold out headline show at Oxford Art Factory, Enschway has been hand-picked as one of the few locals announced for Australia’s nationalListen Out Festival this September. He will also be taking Friendschway Vol. 3 on a solo tour throughout July, hitting all capital cities in Australia including Sydney’s Metro Theatre, plus a special show for New Zealand fans in Auckland. With his previous EPs receiving over 4 million collective streams online plus a run of reviews from YourEDM, Run The Trap, inthemix, EDM Tunes, it’s not doubt that Friendschway Vol. 3 will push Nic further onto the global scale, where he has already roused interest from top guns,Diplo, RL Grime and What So Not.

Friendschway Vol. 3 is out now via Sweat It Out.
