City of Sydney unveils new plan to revitalise Sydney’s nightlife

In new plans unveiled by Lord Mayor Clover Moore and the City of Sydney, businesses are set to see more freedoms in regards to trading times and restrictions.

The plan, while only at a local government level, aims to inch Sydney toward a 24 hour trading city, with extra trading hours for those putting on live performances, general increases on trading hours for low impact businesses (until 2am) and the implementation of more late night trading areas in upcoming precincts (Alexandria/Green Square).

A rundown of what the plan proposes is below:

    • Extended CBD business trading times, pushing for more diverse 24 hour trading areas
    • Extended trading times until 2am for businesses and venues outside of the CBD on main streets
    • New late night trading hours and pushes in up and coming precincts (E.g. Green Square and Barangaroo)
    • Extended hours for venues hosting performances on the night of said performances (live music, etc)

While the proposed laws won’t affect lockouts themselves being a state government issue, it looks to be a step in the right direction for Sydney.

You can read more about it through Clover Moore’s Facebook post below. The full proposal will be made available to the public after it’s been put to council, November 19.

Tell us what you think, is this a push in the right direction or is it too little too late?
