Diplo pledges $100,000 to Las Vegas shooting victims’ fund, calls on fellow DJs to follow suit

Diplo seems to have started somewhat of a philanthropic “Revolution” among dance music producers.

The Major Lazer teammate announced his $100,000 donation to victims of the Las Vegas shooting early morning October 7 via Twitter. “My deepest sympathies are with the victims…and their families,” Diplo stated. “It’s my hope that these events will start a long awaited and honest conversation about the importance of gun control in America. Las Vegas is my home, and it’s devastating to see this happen in such a vibrant city with an amazing community of people I consider my family.”

In addition to sharing the news of his pledge, Diplo encouraged others to step forward to offer their assistance. “I challenge any other DJ’s or hotel owners to match it [the donation],” Diplo wrote. “We owe it to the city.” Valentino Khan, Kaskade, and Tiësto have since answered Diplo’s call to action, each submitting donations. Tiësto notably matched Diplo’s $100,000 pledge.

Diplo’s contribution “will go to the fund established by the Clark County Commission, to be distributed directly to victims and their families in partnership with state and local officials.” Those interested in donating to victims and their families may do so here.
