We stepped through the doors of Hï Ibiza this summer with feelings of excitement and intrigue as we were keen to see what had become of Space, one of the world’s most famous clubs, after shutting its doors last summer (for those not too sure, Space had been throwing parties on Ibiza for 27 years and was reborn under the guise of Hï Ibiza for the 2017 season by Ushuaïa who acquired the venue last year).

We headed down for the BBC Radio 1 party on Friday 4th August and entered the club with everything in full swing.  Even as we approached it was clear that the club had been under a massive renovation as the outside was gleaming with a new facade and the queuing issues that were a frequent occurrence at Space were none existent and we walked straight in.

The club is now split between two areas – The Theatre and The Club, and it’s in the former where we spent most of our time. The Theatre is the biggest of the two rooms with an amazing lighting system that brought visualisations throughout the room and across the ceiling.  Combined with an absolutely cracking sound system, a bunch of mind boggling lasers and heaps of confetti & air cannons, it was the perfect venue to catch sets from Kolsch, Maya Jane Coles, B. Traits and Annie Mac.

Over in The Club we caught sets from Tiga and Waze & Odyssey and enjoyed the slightly more intimate and underground feel of this space.  Just as we thought that our adventure exploring Hï Ibiza was over, we headed to the toilets where we had heard rumours that there was another club room in there – surely not? Well yes, there is – and what a vibe! We loved the novelty factor of raving in a loo and it was clear that this was a feeling shared by the other clubbers in there too.

Hï Ibiza will always have the reputation of Space to compete with but will push to create its own legacy. However, it’s clear the newly branded venue will deliver a new era of clubbing on the site and if this party was anything to go by, then it’s set to deliver some spectacular seasons of partying.
