Ministry of Sound are bringing your favourite DJs back for another reunion tour

    OzClubbers

Last year, Ministry of Sound rounded up all of your favourite turn-of-the-century DJs for a massive reunion tour that went around the country.

It was so wildly successful — the Sydney show sold out in less than 48 hours, forcing organisers to add more dates — that MOS ended up running a second tour not long after the first one wrapped.

The good times are only going to continue, with MOS now announcing their best reunion tour yet, this one dubbed ‘Icons’. It’s called that for good reason: they’ve enlisted legendary Italian selector Junior Jack and ‘Together’ hitmaker DJ Falcon as headliners.

They’ll be joined by a slew of Aussie favourites including Mark Dynamix, Kid Kenobi, Groove Terminator, Goodwill, John Course, and so, so many more. Check out the full line-up below.

The tour will kick off at Melbourne Prince Hotel on December 15, with shows in Sydney and the Gold Coast following. Tickets are on sale now from MOS’ website.

From the DJ’s perspective; since Larry Levan’s early days at the Paradise Garage, the remix – or playing different versions of songs – was one of the first notable aspects of what we now know as DJ Culture. His ethic of refreshing successful dancefloor movers in the late seventies passed down generations of DJ has been long-established as almost a perfunctory task, almost a must-do to be undertaken by the disk jockey.
Each year sees new versions of old gems. Some, which even those of us remember in our fresher days, first time around. Occasionally you find that some years produce more than others. This year has already delivered a glut of new-oldies which even by now has you scratching your head and widening your eyeballs at the frequency of remix deliveries.
Yes; in fitting with the northern hemisphere’s hedonism season, this year’s array of tracks is more-than-likely to guarantee multiple hands in the air and is quite remarkable. Especially considering how anthemic - many of these were in their first lifetimes. You only have to look at either Beatport, Traxsource or Juno’s 2018 remix collections to see this. Or even the number of free downloads on Soundcloud – lesser-known producers with their takes on classics, trying to gain support and not to be sniffed at, either.
So far in 2018; we’ve had Underworld’s Born Slippy, Energy 52’s Café Del Mar, Shakedown’s At Night and Junior Jack’s E-Samba. Not to mention the rarer, more trainspotter tunes such as The Disco Evangelists’ De Niro, LSG’s Netherworld or Banco de Gaia’s Heliopolis. Even non-house music pearls such as Massive Attack’s Teardrop have been given a recent, respectable once-over.
This week sees the release of a quite delicate rework, which could divide – or unite – opinions of dancefloor purists (although the latter is far more probable). Maceo Plex has undertaken the task of reinventing “Bladerunner” by the aptly-named artist, Remake. As such a heightened bootleg from the early nineties, it would require special attention to be a success, one would think. Championed twenty-five years ago by most household DJ names from the formative years of clubland – it would add another badge to the American, Plex’s impressive musical arsenal.
Remixes could; for us addicts of the late night (and all day) tiles – signify the cycle of life and its trends or simply “what goes around” comes back around, only with a few tweaks. As David Bowie once said, “The only art I’ll ever study is stuff I can steal from.”

Too Many Zooz are the subway sensation known for collaborating on Beyonce’s Lemonade as well as a searing series of live busking viral videos. Pioneering the sound of the streets, their recent single Warriors featured in the Google Pixel 2 advert, seeing the track garner huge TV plays across Europe, North & South America and Japan.
All of this brought the track to the attention of UK record producer KDA – whose previous single with Tinie Tempah & Katy B hit the UK Singles Chart at #1. Knocking up a bootleg, the momentum quickly grew as tastemakers including YouTube influencer channel SubSoul, club DJs Marco Carola, Busy P, Steve Lawler, Kevin Knapp and BBC Radio 1 DJs Annie Mac, Danny Howard, Pete Tong and MistaJam all lending their support.
Now an official Transatlantic collaboration between New York’s finest animal lovers, Too Many Zooz and (until recently) London’s most mysterious record producer KDA, Warriors has been picked up for release by the UK’s biggest dance music label, Ministry of Sound. As if that wasn’t enough, the collaboration has been given the highest tastemaker award in the country, being named as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World.
Too Many Zooz have evolved their unique sound from a continuous stream of live street performance. Busy touring Europe, Too Many Zooz are made up of dancing sax wizard Leo P, the ferocious percussionist King of Sludge and nimble-fingered trumpeter Matt Doe. After meeting by chance, busking at Union Square Subway station in NYC, commuter-shot footage of their high-octane performances shot to viral fame.
South London boy, KDA, is known predominantly for his number one hit Turn the Music Louder featuring Katy B and Tinie Tempah. The track since achieved gold status and sold more than 500,000 copies. Having only just released himself from anonymity, KDA is the sought-after producer behind Just Say and Hate Me. KDA’s DJ support is an endless list of equally varied tastemakers including the likes of Jackmaster, Seth Troxler, Black Madonna and Jamie Jones.
Bringing Too Many Zooz’ raw, untamed sound of the subway and KDA’s sleek and rhythmic dance music power, the new version of Warriors demands your attention. A clash between two acts that has created an undeniable summer anthem.
