Paradise in the Park: A Grand Old Time

Summer in Southern California is always a time to rejoice and prepare for the activities and adventures that lie ahead in the coming months. One of my personal favorite summertime activities is spending a day at the park. Though a normal park day would include playing sports, riding bikes, and having a picnic, we had the opportunity to host the house music legend Jamie Jones with his label mates from Paradise for a daytime romp that was sure to be a hit.

Taking place at Grand Park in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, the setting was the right combination of intimate and scenic, as the smaller sized park is surrounded by skyscrapers.

The cloudy weather did not seem to hinder attendees as the sold out event seemed to hit capacity within the first few hours. With opening sets from David Berrie and local legend Doc Martin, the mood was set for a lovely evening with a prime selection of DJ’s, including a 2 hour sunset set curated by Latmun & Lauren Lane. The two made an excellent combo, meshing in both of their styles of driving four on the floor beats and soulful vocal lines with groovy bass. It was a rare occurrence that hopefully should set the tone for future bookings in LA (or more simply put, we need more of this in the city).

Next up was the set I was the most excited for and have waited a seemingly endless amount of time to see, and that was the legend himself Loco Dice. His unique blend of obscure house with random snippets of hip hop have always kept him on top of his game. The crowd definitely shared my excitement as he carried us into the nighttime and paved the way for the label boss Jamie Jones to wrap up the day’s activities.

This was the first Paradise event I attended in LA, and I surely will not miss any future events hosted by the label. From the beautiful location, to the perfectly curated lineup and the amazing vibes in the crowd, it was most definitely a grand old time. I think I’m starting to prefer daytime parties over a night at the club…
