SAGA Music Festival Makes Its Debut In Bali At End Of 2017

    Guest

Bali has always been a place you think of for tropical vacations and winter getaways to escape the cold, but as major countries become saturated with music festivals and the wealthy look for something exclusive to do, exotic locations like Bali have taken up the mantle.

SAGA Music Festival is the first locally owned, organized and executed multi-day and stage festival in Bali. Set to take place at the end of the year, December 28-29, SAGA promises more than just music; it will offer a 360 experience focused on entertainment, culture, art, and a “culinary bazaar.”

And from all that we can tell about SAGA, this is just the first chapter in something much bigger. Promoters state that “the idea is bigger than just a party; it’s a moment carefully curated to foster friendships, celebrate life and explore imagination without limits – a moment that everyone will remember years from now.”

The festival will take place at the monumental Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Culture Park in Bali, Indonesia. The site, which is just a 15-minute drive from the airport in the Badung Regency area and can accommodate up to 50,000 people, takes up 240-acres of parkland and is dotted with 25-meter high limestone carved cliffs with the park’s namesake statue, which is one of Bali’s most revered cultural icons, serving as a centerpiece.

While SAGA is looking to establish itself as more than just a music festival, that doesn’t mean that the lineup has been over looked. World-class names will take the stage, including DJ Snake, FKJ, TWRK, and Chris Lake.

Bali’s music scene has been recently elevated by the entrance of worldwide festival brands like Ultra Music Festival and Bestival, but what they have been missing is a local touch and that’s how SAGA Music Festival aims to differ on an island where gorgeous days and starlit nights create the ideal setting for a slice of festival paradise in Bali.

LSDREAM Unveils Debut Album ‘Voyager’ On Liquid Stranger’s Wakaan
“He makes a huge impact no matter what” — YOUREDM
“Can’t wait to see what comes from this new project” — RUN THE TRAP
LSDREAM is a concept born within the deepest realms of the experimental mind. A long time in the making, the LSDREAM project is the sonic brainchild of internationally commended music producer, Brillz. Stepping into an entirely new venture, the producer has delved far within his artistic conscious to implement a creative drive and inspiration that has been under cover for far too long. Now, it’s time for LSDREAM to take centre stage as he reveals his debut album Voyager, on Liquid Stranger’s WAKAAN imprint.
Enigmatic and mesmerising, the LSDREAM experience is truly a spiritual one. His creations hover on the murkiest edges of the electronic spectrum, yet maintain a genre fluidity that spills over in to the realms of trap, dubstep, glitch and far beyond. Pairing his music with an immersive visual experience, LSDREAM invites bass fans to dip in to territories entirely uncharted by the Brillz project alone. A new vision curated by the heart and soul.
LSDREAM showcases his multidimensional talent with Voyager. Tracks like Oblivian, Godspeed, As Above So Below and Psychadelix bend the very fabric of the bass music landscape, as Ten of Pentacles, Awake and Activate shapeshift and hop between genres as the LP refuses to be categorised. Darkly emotive and majestically crafted, Voyager shares an insight in to the mind of a producer who isn’t afraid to flip the boundaries of the norm on their head.

Recently I got to go check out the official Outlook Festival Queensland launch party in Brisbane. Presented by Quality Street Byron Bay, the event concept paid tribute to one of Europe’s most exciting Drum and Bass festivals and is a celebration of sound system culture.

The European Outlook festival is on the bucket list of most diehard DNB fans so to be offered an aussie installment was an absolute treat. Hosted by The Brightside in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, the venue really suited the event.

As I arrived I walked into a energetic vibe and the DNB was in full swing.  With a line up featuring artists from the UK and interstate I was spoiled for choice. One of my personal favourites De La Haye played b2b with Kosha D and played some really funky liquid drum and bass.

The pair are always a treat to watch and they really set the mood for the event for me. Followed up by Static Structures featuring Baptiste and Dub Phizix feat Chunky who played some really nice deep DNB the artists were quality.

The space was large enough for the crowd and drinks are actually really cheap at this venue with the option for food at the little food canteen out the front. The venue has a number of toilets inside which is awesome because generally there is never enough toilets for everyone. The only downfall to this event was the sound quality with the venue clearly due for an upgrade to their speakers.

The after party kicked on at Capulet, which for me is one of my favourite venues in Brisbane. If you haven’t been to this bar make sure you go check it out. The after party filled the venue. There was many smiling faces, people were dancing and the music was perfect with Tech House playing. My personal favourite was 8Man & Walrii in the main bar and then the DNB in the side area at Montague. There is not much more you can really ask for with a combined event like this.

Overall, I really enjoyed this event - the music, the performers, the punters, the venues were an excellent choice and the security at both events were actually pretty friendly. I saw some familiar faces at both events but also a few new faces, so it was nice to see this event drew out some new people.

I can’t wait to see what else Quality Street brings to us in the future.

Swedish DJ Avicii, one of the world's biggest dance music stars, has died in Oman at the age of 28.
Avicii's club anthems include Wake Me Up, Levels, and recently, Lonely Together with Rita Ora.
His representative said in a statement: "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii.
"The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time."
No cause of death was announced, and Avicii's representative said no further statements would be issued.
The superstar DJ behind some of the decade's biggest hits The electronic dance music (EDM) star, who reportedly made $250,000 (£180,000) a night on tour, had struggled with some health issues in the past, having his gall bladder and appendix removed in 2014.
He announced his retirement from touring in 2016, partly because of the health problems.
"I know I am blessed to be able to travel all around the world and perform, but I have too little left for the life of a real person behind the artist," he said at the time.
Avicii's Wake Me Up breaks a million Avicii sixth on DJ rich list Avicii recovering after an operation
      Who was Avicii?
One of the biggest names in dance music of the last 10 years, he had a catalogue full of pumping, uplifting, house smashes He started his career when he won a production competition held by Pete Tong in 2008 He went on to notch up 11 billion streams on Spotify and was the first EDM DJ to stage a worldwide arena tour He was nominated for two Grammy Awards and had nine UK top 10 singles, including two number ones He suffered from health problems including acute pancreatitis, in part due to excessive drinking

He later announced a return to the studio, and released a new self-titled EP in 2017.
The EP, Avĩci (01), was nominated for a Billboard music award for top electronic album just days before his death.
As well as working with the likes of Aloe Blacc and Rita Ora, Avicii collaborated with artists including Madonna and Coldplay.
Former Radio 1 DJ Judge Jules, who often performed alongside him, said his biggest achievement was being the first electronic dance star to break America.
"He was the first huge commercial star," Judge Jules told the BBC. "He really became someone who couldn't go out on the street, he was so heavily recognised."
Other leading electronic artists wrote tributes to Bergling after the news of his death.

Singer Dua Lipa tweeted: "Such sad news to hear about Avicii passing. Too young and way too soon. My condolences go out to his family, friends and fans."
US band Imagine Dragons tweeted: "Working with him was one of my favourite collaborative moments. Far too young. The world was a happier and fuller place with his presence and art."
"No words can describe the sadness I'm feeling right now, hearing about Avicii passing away," offered DJ Zedd, while singer Adam Lambert, who collaborated on the track Lay Me Down, called him "a brilliant composer and a gentle spirit."

      An enchanting artist
Analysis by Mark Savage, BBC Music reporter
At Avicii's last ever show in August 2016, one crazed fan climbed a 100ft-high (30m) scaffolding tower, just to get a better view.
That's not something that happens that often during a DJ set (who needs to see the stage anyway?) but it was a testament to Avicii's ability to enchant an audience.

Confetti cannons and bass drops aside, his shows encapsulated the inclusive, everyone-welcome philosophy that led him to collaborate with Coldplay, Nile Rodgers and Antony Hegarty as well as bluegrass and metal musicians in the studio.
That final show, at Ushuaia Ibiza, was a two-hour greatest hits set, featuring crowd pleasers like Levels and Wake Me Up alongside his remixes of Robyn and Dizzee Rascal.
But the DJ, who famously let the cat out of the bag when he revealed most major DJs pre-programmed their sets (comments he later walked back), was also known for dropping unexpected, whimsical tracks into his performances. A bit of Smokey Robinson here; a dash of Chicago there.
He approached it all with an energy and optimism that permeated his own recordings. It's no surprise he was one of the most beloved DJs on the circuit.
More about Avicii on BBC Music
      Avicii in his own words
To Billboard Magazine in 2016: "When I look back on my life, I think: whoa, did I do that? It was the best time of my life in a sense. It came with a price - a lot of stress, a lot of anxiety for me - but it was the best journey of my life" Post-retirement on his website: "[Creating music], that is what I live for, what I feel I was born to do... The next stage will be all about my love of making music to you guys. It is the beginning of something new." Prelude to music video for hit The Nights: "When I was 16, my father said, 'You can do anything you want with your life, you just have to be willing to work hard to get it.' That's when I decided when I die, I want to be remembered for the life I live, not the money I make."
