SLUMBERJACK and Machine Age unveiled their electronic rock joint effort “Daggers” via Monstercat. “Daggers” is the first single off SLUMBERJACK’s anticipated SARAWAK EP, featuring collaborations with Troyboi and Ekali. Machine Age’s vocal distortion and grit lead listeners through the track’s tweaked traditional rock music verse-chorus structure and 4/4 time signature.
SLUMBERJACK wrote Sarawak in member Morgan Then’s home country of Malaysia. SLUMBERJACK’s Then and Fletcher Ehler brought the house down in 2018 at an array of acclaimed U.S. festivals: Lollapalooza, EDC Las Vegas, Electric Forest as well as HARD Summer. Cairns native Machine Age’s flawless fusion of electronic and organic instruments caught triple j unearthed‘s eye. Adrian Mauro, aka Machine Age, plans to release an extensive body of work next year.
“We spent the better part of last year struggling to write something we were proud of,” said Ehlers. “Touring gave us airports, hotels, concrete jungles. We really needed a change from that. We needed to just live, in the moment, again.”
“In our generation where people draw so much inspiration from their laptops, their phones, the internet,” said Then. “We just needed to feel again. The sights, the sounds even the taste.”
