Probably the only thing harder than getting into Berghain is finding footage of what happens inside.
Filming and taking photos is strictly forbidden inside the famous techno club (small stickers are actually placed over your phone cameras when you enter) and if you’re caught you will be swiftly ejected. Thanks to this policy — and to the punters who generally respect the rule — there are very few images of the goings on inside the club.
Which makes this recently unearthed archival footage from Techno History all the more interesting.
The 12-minute video from 2000 is an exceptionally rare glimpse into a night at the revered techno venue Ostgut, which was the club that proceeded and inspired Berghain and Panorama Bar. Ostgut operated from 1998 to 2003, and included the male-only fetish club Snax.
Amid the swirling bodies and smoke, you’ll spot cameos from notable selectors like Johannes Heil, The Advent, and Dave Angel. Watch it below.
