At first glance, Brisbane DJ DefWill appears to be going from strength to strength, balancing university studies, events management roles for festivals like Splendour in the Grass, Rabbits Eat Lettuce and Live Large, DJing some of the deepest techno rhythms at some of the primest techno parties on the east coast of Oz and also that he has never let the fact that he is deaf hold him back. Though if one takes the time to look (and talk) a little deeper it becomes clear that he, like many of us, carries burdens that are well beyond his control and the weight of which has been known to bring even the strongest of us down.

From the DJ’s perspective; since Larry Levan’s early days at the Paradise Garage, the remix – or playing different versions of songs – was one of the first notable aspects of what we now know as DJ Culture. His ethic of refreshing successful dancefloor movers in the late seventies passed down generations of DJ has been long-established as almost a perfunctory task, almost a must-do to be undertaken by the disk jockey.

WIN A VIP DOUBLE PASS TO SCOOTER AUS TOUR!

Here is a fresh new mix from us—and one that definitely gives us the warm and fuzzies!

So, our 'Attic' brand as a whole, the music we push—and, indeed, Andrew and I as individual DJs—is often centred around music on the lower, slower, deeper, warm-up tip. That is a label we've always worn with pride.

Recently I got to go check out the official Outlook Festival Queensland launch party in Brisbane. Presented by Quality Street Byron Bay, the event concept paid tribute to one of Europe’s most exciting Drum and Bass festivals and is a celebration of sound system culture.

Another day, another report of dangerous pills. Allison of KnowYourStuffNZ has been busy telling all the kiwi boys and girls about the circulation of high dose ecstasy and we’re here to pass some of that info onto you!
New Zealand being our neighbours it’s somewhat safe to assume we’re getting some of the similar imports and the good people at The Spinoff have recently put out an article detailing some of the issues with what’s going around.
What we can tell you is to approach a few with increased caution. On that list: Green Guccis, Yellow Rolexes and Pink Porsches. The Porsches in particular have been found to have pharmaceutical agents, so that’s usually a big ol’ no go.
As always, we don’t condone it, but understand it happens. Look after yourselves and your friends!

Luigi Tozzi’s fathomless techno deep-dives and captivating biomorphic atmospherics have been a favorite of ours at Dub Monitor since the young Italian producer began regularly releasing in 2014. Tozzi is one of a surprising cohort of Italian producers who have distinguished themselves as an undeniable vanguard of ingenious experimentation in techno and commitment to its fusion of modernist and shamanistic impulses. Think of Lucy, the Dadub guys, Voices from the Lake, to name just a few. I was curious to know how Tozzi came to be doing what he’s doing, how he goes about making such weirdly organic techno, where he thinks Italian techno is going right now, and what his future plans might be.

UK hip hop, electronic crossover act Foreign Beggars formed in 2002 and have seen an evolution as an underground hip hop group to electronic crossover act ever since. With multiple studio recordings under their belt and an always high-energy live show, the critically acclaimed group are well known as one of the UK’s most inexhaustible and versatile acts.

Neverland is the first in a series of events in Brisbane with a carefully curated line up of musical talent, world class sound, and unique live dance performances. We want to bring elements of the old skool raving days into today and provide all participants with a blend of what was and what is.

Floating Deep was built on the vision to bring imagination to life by creating unique events, transforming reality as we know it, providing captivating sounds to the people who love to party. It was established with the intention of expanding and growing an alternative music culture in Brisbane.

We want to share our passion for varying styles of futuristic, raw, melodic and wonky deep tech house music. These sounds can also be heard live every Wednesday on Soulfinity Radio between 9- 10pm AEST, with monthly guest appearances by some local and international DJ's and producers.

Hope all is well in your paradise. The invitation for the infamous City-Bush-Doof, aka CBD, is officially official! As the name suggests, the CBD is a music-based event set to the backdrop of Brisbane’s suburban jungle.

The City Bush Doof evolved as an idea that began as a lunch in the park and quickly turned into an all out party after receiving huge support on Facebook . Since it’s offical release on the 30th of September, first round tickets have already sold out! With over five thousand people interested in attending the event before the announcement of a lineup or venue, it’s no surprise that the City Bush Doof promises to be a defining event of 2017.  If you’re into dance music and good vibes, this is one Sunday sesh you won’t want to miss.

Although the initial plan was to occupy public land in St Lucia, our application with the council was rejected, so we have had to move to a new location and will post closer to the date.

The CBD was inspired with the aim of bringing just a small group of family and friends closer together but with so much interest and excitement, we opened the event to the public. Since, it's become a music-based event built on positivity, happiness and a mutual love of doof. So please please please take the opportunity to spend time with your bretheren and bask in the love.

Originally, we planned to run the event on donations but in order to host the best event possible, we needed more funds - and have since released tickets (check the link above). This year's event is on a Sunday and we're hosting a range of local and national artists.

Updates will be provided as we approach the event date.

We can't wait to see you there!
