Infamous CUMBIA MASSIVE barrrio sessions return to Section 8, where it all started. This time it's going to be heavy, we are dragging CUMBIA rEbAJadA to its spiritual beginnings that also gave birth to dub, techno, and is linked by some to screw rap aka dirty south hip hop music. This event concludes our SPRING TOUR 2017, with ever bigger things to come.

CUMBIA MASSIVE residents Saca La Mois DJ!! + Sonidero Esperanza + DJ Tahnioca Cumbiera + Galambo + special guest (to be announced).

Refreshed from recent street party taking over Wagga Wagga together with the DiY Hi Fi solar-powered sound system, Cumbia Massive is preparing for a hot hot summer season of parties.

So at Section 8 this time SACA LA MOIS DJ!! is slowing-down to 33rpm super rare Cumbia 45s from Colombian, Mexican, Ecuadorian, Venezuelan and Peruvian, and exclusive digital dubplates cooked up in the Cumbia Cosmonauts laboratory. Even his customary toasting style is going to be screwed up.

SONIDERO ESPERANZA travels the world hosting Mexican wrestling events and to recover from the ring makes playlists for the next opportunity to takeover the Cumbia Massive dancefloor.

GALAMBO needs little introduction to the Cumbia Massive, every set is an experience as it is a live performance never to repeated. Modular synths and drum machines provide the grooves into which Galambo channels his voice and pre-hispanic instruments.

DJ TAHNIOCA CUMBIERA has lived the vibe of the favelas and backroads of Latin America to bring you the sonido of the real experience.

      Free Entry.

Lovebirds is the solo project of Berlin resident Sebastian ‘Basti’ Doering. Following 3 excellent singles on the much-respected Winding Road Records label, Lovebirds is big news right now. Labels such as Freerange and Buzzin Fly are hot on his heels, eager to sign his tracks.

The first Lovebirds release appeared on Trax of Interest. In 2006, having built up a repertoire of unsigned material, he sent a CD to John Buckby, label owner of Winding Road Records and a mutual friend of Vincenzo.

The Lovebirds sound is like a blast from the past with house steroids packing serious production muscle. Listening to Lovebirds is like taking trip back to the 70s and 80s - but riding in a gleaming futuristic spaceship.

The first Lovebirds single on Winding Road was the ‘Modern Stalking’ EP, which came out in 2007. The EP contained tracks of mid-tempo house, each coming from a different musical angle and giving the world a taste of what he was capable of. It was received by the deep house and neo-disco community with open arms. Top-flight DJ’s such as Prins Thomas, Ashley Beedle and Jimpster went wild for it. Bill Brewster made the EP the Single Of The Month in iDJ magazine. Lovebirds had landed.

His second single for Winding Road was slamming vocal track ‘Love On My Hands’, which featured the voice of Holly Backler. As with the first EP, this release drew much praise from the deep house cognoscenti and put Basti ever more firmly on the map. Most recently, July 2008 sees the release of third single for Winding Road, ‘In The Shadows’. Once again, an extremely classy offering received by the tastemakers to great acclaim.

Although the Lovebirds name has burst onto the scene relatively recently, Basti is no beginner in the production game. Basti formed Knee Deep, together with old friend Toddie Freese in 1998. Knee Deep became a household name in the dance scene, leading to international DJ gigs and mountains of remix work. As Knee Deep, Basti has remixed Jamiroquai 3 times, as well as Bob Sinclair, David Morales, Brandy, and many others, even winning the prestigious “best remixer” category in the 2002 German Dance Awards in the process (beating Timo Maas along the way).

A few years on, Basti had achieved all he wanted to with Knee Deep, and was ready to move into more deeper, melancholy musical avenues. And so Lovebirds was born, which is now his main project. His production experience means that he is able to finish well-rounded tracks off in a matter of days, constantly building a repertoire of classy dancefloor and mellow sounds all destined to wow the world.

The process is well on its way already. The cream of the dance world has its eyes on Lovebirds. Tom Middleton is a big fan. Jimpster has signed up some tracks for a first EP on Freerange. Ben Watt is in regular contact and has signed a track for one of his recent compilations. Basti is involved in fruitful collaborations with Holly Backler, Vincenzo, and other artists. As if all this wasn’t enough, Basti is gathering a collection of songs for release on his and Vincenzo’s new label Teardrop Records, which is destined to become an essential new addition to the house library.

Maayan Nidam, an artist in flux, continues to change, evolve and challenge boundaries both in her Berlin studio and on stage. She has built a reputation as a fine DJ and producer who favours a subtle approach towards mesmeric moments.

Her DJ sets, predominantly based in stripped-back, deep sounds, utilise an intriguing vinyl collection, using obscure interludes for re-contextualisation. This approach makes for some magical moments on the dance-floor, where a night’s highlight may come from the most unlikely of tracks.

As a musician obsessed about sound and the technology behind its creation, her workflow places a strong focus on the studio environment. Triggering chain reactions between guitar pedals, drum machines, modular synths and acoustic instruments, generating sounds in unpredictable, exciting ways.

Inspired by her 2014 performances as The Waves with an accompanying band, Maayan has developed a solo live set that allows her to further her studio experiments and take them on the road. With a flexibly evolving range of hardware, she re-creates the spontaneous frame of her productions, delving deep into the possibilities of live dubbing and improvisation, keeping the performance exciting for both the crowd and Maayan herself.

REVOLVER FRIDAYS: MAAYAN NIDAM, Henry Who, Dan Beck, Mike Callander, Dj Kiti. Revolver back bar 7pm-7am.

BOUNCE AUDIO: Line-up tba. Revolver front room 12-7am.

RISE&SHINE: Sunshine. Revolver back bar 7am-midday Saturday morning.

      MR. G
Previously one half of 'The Advent', Colin Mcbean (Mr G) left the duo to pursue his own path. After some time out of the limelight Colin reappeared back on the scene with 2010's monster Album 'STILL HERE' on the mighty REKIDS imprint, hailed by the press as one of the hottest albums of that year by one off the house masters. Many remixes later and additional releases on BASS CULTURE, HUDDTRAX, AFRICASAFARI, MOODS AND GROOVES DETROIT AND HIS OWN LABEL, PHOENIX G, Mr G is preparing to drop his follow up album, again with Rekids called "STATE OF FLUX". Expect another journey into MR G's G FUNK SOUND and yet another monster release from the Label behind Nina Kraviz and Radio Slave.

      RYAN ELLIOTT
"Most of all, what comes from the speakers, it has to be the right track at the right moment and it has to be played in the right way." Nobody knows this better than Detroit's Ryan Elliott, his reputation as DJ, remixer and member Of the Spectral Sound A & R team has steadily grown behind the records for more than ten years, and has also been described as a 'DJ's DJ' and a 'true apprentice of a pure art form'. You do not get that kind of reputation, and Ellliott has earned it in every respect.

Influenced by the labels of his home town (Axis, Purpose Maker, M Plant and UR) and other international names such as Perlon, Playhouse and Kompakt, Ryan strongly refers to the application and function of the kick drum.

After Residencies in Ann Arbor's Goodnight Gracies and Detroits Shelter, Elliott began to play international clubfloors. From New York's Guggenheim Museum to Barcelona's sonar, Ryan always tailors his sets to the exact requirements, not least with the help of his huge plate collection. In 2009, he moved to Berlin to devote himself more intensively to DJing, his productions and the management of the Spectral Sound Roster. "At first glance, Berlin and Detroit look different, but there is the same feeling, not only in terms of music, both cities have their edges and an honest heart," says Ryan.

He has remained faithful to his style, bass-driven techno, reduced to the essence and conscientiously tuned to bring the audience to their senses. Now is the right time, here are the right tracks and Ryan Elliott is right where he should be.

In a saturated hip-hop market Charlie Threads stands out.

After his signature style of rapping caught the ear of Triple J presenters on Baro’s early singles Amber & Peppermint, the 2016 mixtape Palm Trees in Graveyards caused quite the stir with the jazz-influenced boom-bap production canvassing his development from young adolescence to adulthood.

Fresh from his blistering verse on Alice Ivy’s “Get Me A Drink” and shows alongside her at Pitch Festival, Splendour In The Grass, Groovin’ the Moo & The Corner Hotel supporting Urthboy: Charlie’s upcoming debut Rainy Weather Music stands to further his promising career

As one third of the team behind the Hessle Audio label, David Kennedy a.k.a. Pearson Sound has become more than synonymous with the cutting edge of UK dancefloor music.

In releasing his self-titled debut artist album in 2015, he skilfully capitalised on his astoundingly solid run of single and EP releases since 2009, producing a hypnotically enveloping LP that really found its feet in its willingness to experiment. Since then, he has been focused on the club, with his recent single XLB being voted the #2 best track of 2016 by Resident Advisor, as well as Freeze & Thaw Cycle being a staple of some of the biggest house and techno DJs' record bags. He has lectured at the Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid, released a critically heralded FABRICLIVE compilation and has remixed artists like Radiohead, The xx and M.I.A. as well as running the vinyl only club night, Acetate, in Leeds. With the ten year anniversary of Hessle Audio on the horizon in 2017, somehow he’s still finding the time to help ensure that Hessle’s weekly radio show on London’s Rinse FM maintains its role as an essential part of the station’s broadcasting schedule.

STAGE: PEARSON SOUND, Ransom, Mat Cant.

CAGE: Noise In My Head, Plastic Palms, Yooree, Edd Fisher, Monty McGaw. Revolver back bar 7pm-7am and front room 12am-7am.

    1. Hi everyone,

I've been hard at it again over the past few months, and as you may have noticed, the site is not only becoming a one-stop-shop for everything about clubbing, but even running smoother and faster!  As part of it becoming a one-stop-shop, here's some new things that have been added  :)

      News and Reviews

The News and Reviews section has launched!  Not only are we getting syndicated feeds from a number of reputable sources in the electronic music industry, but we have our own writers posting news and reviews!  This makes Ozclubbers.com.au a single place that you can go to get all the news, rather than jumping to multiple different websites across your day.

Of course, we are always on the lookout for more writers, so if you think you can contribute, head over to https://ozclubbers.com.au/application and send us through an application!

      Events

Firstly, we have opened up Event Adding so that you no longer need to be a member to add your event.  If you aren't a member, you will need to wait for your event to be approved by a moderator before it appears on the site.  If you are a member, not only is your event is automatically approved, but you can respond to comments and view the RSVP list.  To add an event, go to https://ozclubbers.com.au/calendar/submit.  Remember, adding events is completely free!

Secondly, we have linked up with a number of venues to have their Facebook events now appear on our Calendar. So not only will you see events that various event promoters post up, you'll also get to see the events from venues as well.
If you are a venue, and would like to get your Facebook events linked up to appear on Ozclubbers, get in touch with @AdamMadd and we can arrange it - it costs you absolutely nothing!

And lastly, for those in Brisbane, any events added to the Brisbane calendar will automatically appear on the Brisbane Social and The Valley facebook pages.  Great way to get free promotion!
If you are the owner/manager of a Facebook page in your city dedicated to the clubbing and electronic music scene, get in touch with @AdamMadd and we can get events appearing on your page automatically too!

      Newsletters
We now have weekly newsletters which give you all the news, events, forum topics, blogs, photos, etc all in one email!  You can subscribe and unsubscribe to these by visiting https://ozclubbers.com.au/settings/?area=newsletters and selecting the newsletters relevant to you from there.

      Music Wiki

Our brand new feature is a Music Wiki.  This is a community-driven place to define the various different styles of electronic music.  You can also search through it if you don't know what a particular genre or style is.  This wiki is completely community driven, so we need your input to add and update the information on it.  You can find this under the Music menu, or by jumping to https://ozclubbers.com.au/musicwiki/

      New Brisbane Photographer

We want to take a moment to welcome our new photographer in Brisbane, @harry_jwhite. Harry has a vast array of experience in photography and is keen to help out the scene as much as possible.

We are still looking for volunteer photographers in other cities as well, so if you are a bit of a socialite, have a decent camera, and like getting free entry to events, get in touch with us at https://ozclubbers.com.au/application

      Forums

The forums have had a bit of an update.  You can now view the Forums in a "stream" view, which lets you filter all the active threads by forum topic using options on the right hand side of the page.  This gives you the chance to see all the topics that interest you, but without the need to jump back and forth around the site.

Thats about it for now.  Thanks again for being part of our community, and if you like what we are doing, please share the site around!

      Cheers

      Adam Madd

    4. IN COMFORTABLE silence we sat for the first few puffs before John mused, "Not long to go now."

      34868624501_4e61ac013a_b.jpg

"Mmm," I answered, enjoying the hazy blanket descending from the outside in.

A pause. "Are you sure you want to go through with it, Izz?"

      "Yeah man. I have too."

"But you know, you are, well, kind of useless, right?"

I wasn't offended. John's words were voiced with affection and a fair amount of prior experience.

"I like to think of myself as endearingly useless bro."

"That's still useless. Do you really think you can pull this off?"

      "No, not really.”

      The spliff savoured. Passed back.

“But you know, it’s sure going to be a trip finding out."

John leaned back, looked up and laughed. "Well I guess it's good that you've stopped this straight edge bollocks then. You know before it felt as if you hung out with us because you had too. Now it feels like you want too."

John still thought my travels might chemically lobotomise; but at least now I should have some fun along the way.

      * * * *

SO OKAY, I wasn't some electronic prophet destined to lead a straight edge revolution. People of all ages weren't going to flood the dance scene for the good of their health, due to my example.

I was an ageing hedonist heading for one final blowout and all things were back on the table. I had no idea what the next few months held, what they would mean. I hoped meaning would be found. I was searching for secrets and mysteries and magic - for an end worthy of the name. And I was scared shitless. But it was going to be great . . . I hoped.
