      GMJ & MATTER

Gavin Martin, also known as GMJ, has been a prominent figure in underground electronic dance music for two decades.
Forging a successful career as a DJ, event organiser and producer, Gavin is a pioneering force in the Melbourne scene and has performed in all corners of the globe.
Playing alongside some of the world’s leading names in deep house and progressive, it was natural that Gavin would one day bring his passion for hypnotic soundscapes and deep groves to the studio setting.
In 2007, the GMJ project was born and he has since released on iconic recording imprints including Proton Music, Replug, Sudbeat, Anjuna Deep, Particles, Baroque, Balkan Connection, Iboga, Flow, Open Records and many more.
Spacious yet powerful, the GMJ sound has been supported by names like Hernan Cattaneo, Cid Inc, Guy J, Nick Warren, Jeremy Olander, Dave Seamen, John Digweed, Dousk, Eelke Klein and Kasey Taylor, and regularly features on the front pages & charts of the world’s biggest dance music retailer Beatport.com.
2016 saw GMJ's standing within the upper echelons of global progressive house confirmed with a nomination in the best of Beatport awards, and his monthly radio show “Future Memory” beginning & regularly featuring at the upper end of the charts on Proton Radio.
The end of 2017 & beginning of 2018 looks bright with gigs confirmed in Europe & Sri Lanka, as well as Sydney with fellow craftsmen, collaborator & good friend Matter!

From humble beginnings as a self confessed vinyl addict and DJ, rocking the clubs and festivals of London and Melbourne, Matter now finds solace in his studio sculpting raw sounds into complex waveforms. With each production, Matter sets out to build a rich emotional collage for the audience complete with deep atmospheres, hypnotic percussion and blissful motifs, all helping to achieve his vision of facilitating an altered state of being for the listener and a stronger connection with those around them.

As a live performer, Matter brings his own unique energy, along with an assault of controllers & drum machines, engaging the crowd and shaping each performance into its own distinct experience. With releases on Anjunadeep, Proton and JOOF Recordings, to name a few, and forthcoming releases on Replug, Matter is one artist to keep an eye on well into 2018.

A recent collaboration project with GMJ (@gmj-fulcrum) signals an exciting sonic meeting point with many more releases and remixes planned for Proton Music in the not to distant future!

Kicking off LNDRY this March we have an amazing double header in store. The legendary DJ Aphrodite returns to LNDRY presented by Bass Drop. Hailing from Scuba's (HotFlush Recordings) we welcome OR:LA to the cave + Andy Garvey.

Aphrodite aka Gavin King’s career in DJing and production has spanned 20 years under various guises including ‘Godfather of Jungle’ and ‘King of the Beats’. He is responsible for introducing, entertaining and moving millions of Drum & Bass fans across the globe.

A vast knowledge of various genres and tempos is what separates Or:la from many other young DJ's at the moment: aptly summed up by Thump as "One of the most underrated DJs on the UK circuit at the moment, and one of those selectors blessed with the ability to really tell a story.

      ★ S.A.S.H by Day ★

With over 3 years at Home The Venue and 2 years at Greenwood over our 7 year lifespan, we’ve pinned this weekend as the 500th S*A*S*H… and that’s nothing to neigh at!

From boats to warehouses, Melbourne to Paris, London to the Inner West’s best. Late nights, early mornings, cold breakfasts all served by the glorious purple noise makers.

Hosting luminaries from America to Israel, Moscow to Mexico, Denmark to Romania and from right across this southern land, the journey hasn’t been straight.. yet here we are.

Paying gratitude and thanks to those who have stood by and supported us over the years, we’ve put together a line-up of our nearest and dearest selectors to celebrate the minor milestone to reflect and respect those locals who make this truly something special.

So large is the extended family – we’ve opened up The Chapel to accommodate our Sunday guest speakers and gospel preachers.

With a huge sense of gratitude and thanks, we salute and thank each other as well as the thousands of dancers who without their unrelenting support and unwavering energy none of this would have been possible.

To 500 but more so 500 more!

      ★ S.A.S.H by Day ★

We spent a couple of hours counting how many parties we've thrown and this was 500!!! (or there abouts)

It's only fitting to go large with the celebrations as well as the lineup, re-uniting some of those who have been with us the longest - across The Terrace & in the Chapel at S.A.S.H By Day.

      ★ S.A.S.H by Night ★

Our 501st party sees a collaboration with the mighty Unusual Suspects Brand taking control of The Terrace, and a couple of usual suspects goin' house in The Den.

Papa Rick Maia is our special guest for the evening, running the successful Unusual Suspects brand in Ibiza hosting some of the scenes most forward thinking house and techno artists: including Sydney's very own Monika Ross last season. It made sense to invite Monika in to get things going before Mr Maia.

Back in the blue room, long time SASHers Pip Dalton and Tom Witheridge sling out the low slung groovers till the early morn...

★ Rick Maia (Unusual Suspects Ibiza) ★
Skilled DJ, Producer & Promoter, best believe Rick knows a thing or two about the party.

No doubt bringing a bag full of vinyl and a usb to test out her latest productions, Monika Ross returns to the Terrace just before her she heads back to Europe..

Music Genre: Deep,Disco,Funk,House Facebook URL: https://www.facebook.com/events/189660574960533/ We're very pleased to announce that we're back in action with our first Attic event for 2018.  We're once again ticking another one of our favourite artists and selectors off our wish list—this time, it's Laurence Guy; his first Australian tour and only Sydney show!
As per, we'll be jumping back into our favourite home away from home, The Civic Underground, and once again, we'll ask you to draw a very big circle around Saturday, 10 March.
      Line-up, as follows:
      Laurence Guy
      (Church, Mule Musiq, UK)
      Andrew Fazzolari
      Brendan Clay

      About Laurence Guy:
Laurence Guy has been making and playing music for a long time, however; it seems that now, he's really hit his stride.
Over the last couple of years, he has proven his worth with a string of hyped releases on Church, Rose Records and Cin Cin, to name just a few.
2017 saw the release of his debut album on home stable, Church, featuring appearances from Steve Spacek, Ishmael and Contours.  It saw Laurence explore rewarding musical diversions, while retaining the melodic tendencies that drew people to his music originally: a mixture of house, ambient, jazz and lo-fi electronica—it’s garnered praise from all over.
As a DJ, he's gone from strength to strength, taking his all-encompassing style and rampant musical enthusiasm around the globe, making his Boiler Room debut in 2016 and appearing on revered radio stations such as Rinse and Worldwide FM.
      About Attic:
'Attic' is the brainchild of Sydney jocks, Brendan Clay and Andrew Fazzolari; devised as a medium to promote their love for low, slow grooves, thick basslines and loose percussion.
Attic is tailored to those searching for an avenue for deep, soulful, disco-infused and melodically-centric house music.
Fundamentally, its focus is the promotion of quality, hand-picked local talent; while regularly welcoming selectors from around the globe, mirroring its ethos and vision.
Since its inception, Attic has hosted three standalone events—featuring renowned house and disco artists, Fouk, Nachtbraker and Folamour—as well as appearing all around Sydney for invitational takeovers, radio appearances, and exclusive showcase sets.
2017 was a positively memorable first full year of Attic action; the boys' enthusiasm and insatiable appetite for quality house music continue in full swing...

The Civic Underground is located within The Civic Hotel, 388 Pitt Street, Sydney—on the corner of Pitt and Goulburn Street.

    2. Hi everyone,

I've been hard at it again over the past few months, and as you may have noticed, the site is not only becoming a one-stop-shop for everything about clubbing, but even running smoother and faster!  As part of it becoming a one-stop-shop, here's some new things that have been added  :)

      News and Reviews

The News and Reviews section has launched!  Not only are we getting syndicated feeds from a number of reputable sources in the electronic music industry, but we have our own writers posting news and reviews!  This makes Ozclubbers.com.au a single place that you can go to get all the news, rather than jumping to multiple different websites across your day.

Of course, we are always on the lookout for more writers, so if you think you can contribute, head over to https://ozclubbers.com.au/application and send us through an application!

Firstly, we have opened up Event Adding so that you no longer need to be a member to add your event.  If you aren't a member, you will need to wait for your event to be approved by a moderator before it appears on the site.  If you are a member, not only is your event is automatically approved, but you can respond to comments and view the RSVP list.  To add an event, go to https://ozclubbers.com.au/calendar/submit.  Remember, adding events is completely free!

Secondly, we have linked up with a number of venues to have their Facebook events now appear on our Calendar. So not only will you see events that various event promoters post up, you'll also get to see the events from venues as well.
If you are a venue, and would like to get your Facebook events linked up to appear on Ozclubbers, get in touch with @AdamMadd and we can arrange it - it costs you absolutely nothing!

And lastly, for those in Brisbane, any events added to the Brisbane calendar will automatically appear on the Brisbane Social and The Valley facebook pages.  Great way to get free promotion!
If you are the owner/manager of a Facebook page in your city dedicated to the clubbing and electronic music scene, get in touch with @AdamMadd and we can get events appearing on your page automatically too!

We now have weekly newsletters which give you all the news, events, forum topics, blogs, photos, etc all in one email!  You can subscribe and unsubscribe to these by visiting https://ozclubbers.com.au/settings/?area=newsletters and selecting the newsletters relevant to you from there.

      Music Wiki

Our brand new feature is a Music Wiki.  This is a community-driven place to define the various different styles of electronic music.  You can also search through it if you don't know what a particular genre or style is.  This wiki is completely community driven, so we need your input to add and update the information on it.  You can find this under the Music menu, or by jumping to https://ozclubbers.com.au/musicwiki/

      New Brisbane Photographer

We want to take a moment to welcome our new photographer in Brisbane, @harry_jwhite. Harry has a vast array of experience in photography and is keen to help out the scene as much as possible.

We are still looking for volunteer photographers in other cities as well, so if you are a bit of a socialite, have a decent camera, and like getting free entry to events, get in touch with us at https://ozclubbers.com.au/application

The forums have had a bit of an update.  You can now view the Forums in a "stream" view, which lets you filter all the active threads by forum topic using options on the right hand side of the page.  This gives you the chance to see all the topics that interest you, but without the need to jump back and forth around the site.

Thats about it for now.  Thanks again for being part of our community, and if you like what we are doing, please share the site around!

    4. IN COMFORTABLE silence we sat for the first few puffs before John mused, "Not long to go now."

"Mmm," I answered, enjoying the hazy blanket descending from the outside in.

A pause. "Are you sure you want to go through with this, Izz?"

      "Yeah man, I have too."

"But you know, you are, well, kind of useless right?"

I wasn't offended. John's words were voiced with affection and a fair amount of prior experience.

"I like to think of myself as endearingly useless bro."

"That's still useless. Do you really think you can pull this off?"

      "No, not really.”

      The spliff savoured. Passed back.

“But it’s sure going to be a trip finding out."

John leaned back, looked up and laughed. "Well I guess it's good that you've stopped this straight edge bollocks then. You know, before it felt as if you hung out with us because you had too. Now it feels like you want too."

John still thought my travels might chemically lobotomise; but at least now I should have some fun along the way.

SO OKAY, I wasn't some electronic prophet destined to lead a straight edge revolution. People of all ages weren't going to flood the dance scene for the good of their health due to my example.

I was an ageing hedonist heading for one final blowout and all things were back on the table. I had no idea what the next few months held, what they would mean. I hoped meaning would be found. I was searching for secrets and mysteries and magic - for an end worthy of the name. And I was scared shitless. And it was going to be great . . . I hoped.
