The entertainment stakes continue to rise for the 2018 Melbourne Cup Carnival, with one of the world’s biggest dance music festival brands, Ultra Australia, to join Flemington’s iconic Birdcage Enclosure. The Ultra Australia marquee will feature on the front row of the Birdcage on both AAMI Victoria Derby Day, Saturday 3 November and Seppelt Wines Stakes Day, Saturday 10 November. Victoria Racing Club (VRC) Chief Executive Officer Neil Wilson said the Club was pleased to welcome Ultra Australia to its impressive stable of invitation-only marquees: “This is the first time a music and festival brand has featured in the Birdcage and we’re delighted to have Ultra Australia add to the party atmosphere at Australia’s biggest party, Cup Week.” The marquee, themed by Ultra, will feature some of the hottest Australian and international DJs, celebrities, fashionistas and music lovers. Travis Grech from Ultra Australia said it will be a taste of the Ultra Australia Music Festival to be held at Flemington Racecourse in February next year: “Ultra Australia is very excited about having our very own facility inside the Birdcage during the Melbourne Cup Carnival. We will be launching the Ultra Australia Music Festival in style with our own decor, theming and entertainment to create a dance music festival atmosphere trackside,” Mr Grech said. The VRC lifts the Melbourne Cup Carnival curtain on AAMI Victoria Derby Day on 3 November, followed by Lexus Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 6 November, Kennedy Oaks Day on Thursday 8 November and Seppelt Wines Stakes Day on Saturday 10 November. 2. Too Many Zooz are the subway sensation known for collaborating on Beyonce’s Lemonade as well as a searing series of live busking viral videos. Pioneering the sound of the streets, their recent single Warriors featured in the Google Pixel 2 advert, seeing the track garner huge TV plays across Europe, North & South America and Japan. All of this brought the track to the attention of UK record producer KDA – whose previous single with Tinie Tempah & Katy B hit the UK Singles Chart at #1. Knocking up a bootleg, the momentum quickly grew as tastemakers including YouTube influencer channel SubSoul, club DJs Marco Carola, Busy P, Steve Lawler, Kevin Knapp and BBC Radio 1 DJs Annie Mac, Danny Howard, Pete Tong and MistaJam all lending their support. Now an official Transatlantic collaboration between New York’s finest animal lovers, Too Many Zooz and (until recently) London’s most mysterious record producer KDA, Warriors has been picked up for release by the UK’s biggest dance music label, Ministry of Sound. As if that wasn’t enough, the collaboration has been given the highest tastemaker award in the country, being named as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World. Too Many Zooz have evolved their unique sound from a continuous stream of live street performance. Busy touring Europe, Too Many Zooz are made up of dancing sax wizard Leo P, the ferocious percussionist King of Sludge and nimble-fingered trumpeter Matt Doe. After meeting by chance, busking at Union Square Subway station in NYC, commuter-shot footage of their high-octane performances shot to viral fame. South London boy, KDA, is known predominantly for his number one hit Turn the Music Louder featuring Katy B and Tinie Tempah. The track since achieved gold status and sold more than 500,000 copies. Having only just released himself from anonymity, KDA is the sought-after producer behind Just Say and Hate Me. KDA’s DJ support is an endless list of equally varied tastemakers including the likes of Jackmaster, Seth Troxler, Black Madonna and Jamie Jones. Bringing Too Many Zooz’ raw, untamed sound of the subway and KDA’s sleek and rhythmic dance music power, the new version of Warriors demands your attention. A clash between two acts that has created an undeniable summer anthem. 3. Few locales around the globe have been more intimately connected with dance music culture than Ibiza. For decades, the White Isle has been a breeding ground for world’s most extravagant parties and world-class DJs. Veteran filmmaker Julien Temple is seeking to capture the magic of Ibiza with a feature-length documentary that will bring the famous destination to life in a bold new way. Ibiza –The Silent Movie will feature original material documenting the island’s club scene alongside unseen archive footage. Now it has been announced that Norman Cook, better known as Fatboy Slim, is set to join the film as its musical director. With such a legendary artist taking the helm as the film’s music director there is no doubt that Ibiza –The Silent Movie will be a “compelling audiovisual journey into Ibiza’s bohemian soul.” Speaking on the addition of Cook to the film’s creative team, Temple said, “With the incredible 2,000 year history of this magical island as a subject and the genius of Norman Cook now on board to produce a soundtrack you can dance to, we believe this film will take event media to a whole new level.” Fatboy Slim will join CloZee and Detlef for BangOn! NYC’s Warehouse of Horrors Halloween celebration on October 28.
