One of our favourite rising acts is german techno duo GNTN. The boys are riding a wave of success at the moment having recently headlined at Parookaville festival and their latest release ‘Helios’ was premiered by Mixmag. They are certainly ones to watch and have already found support from some of the biggest names in the scene including Felix Kröcher & Joseph Capriati. We are predicting big things. Regular readers of the blog will be no stranger to GNTN. In fact Jan & Marcel have become good friends of ours and we even flew them over to the UK to play at our 5th Birthday Party. They also did a mix for us back in 2015 which you can grab from our Soundcloud. Since their first signed release in 2014 on Hotfingers Records they have had releases on Selected Records, Voltage Records, Endless Music and Familia. No surprise given their dedication to the sutdio and the high-octane melodic techno that they produce – it’s made for dancelfoors. We asked Jan & Marcel to curate a speically selected playlist of their five tracks of the moment and to pen a few words about what each track means to them. It’s one hell of a selection, and it’s landed just in time for the weekend. GNTN – Helios is relesed today on Reinier Zonneveld’s Filth on Acid imprint – get it HERE. 1. GNTN – Helios Our baby offers a well balanced combination of a driving bassline, melodic synths and a general 90’s touch. 2. Township Rebellion – Dolores Superb selection of synths and sounds which create a bright and euphoric atmosphere throughout the arrangement. The sound of Township Rebellion is really different and futuristic! 3. Clint Stewart – Breathe (Timmo Rework) The track has some mysterious vibes in the break which make it really interesting in combination with the driving drop part. 4. Oliver Huntemann – Rotlicht Absolute banger drums in combination with dark synths. The composition is one of a kind and drives people crazy on the dance floor. 5. Reinier Zonneveld & Mees Salomé – Depth Pretty interesting collaboration by two decent and uprising artists. The baseline goes perfect with the synth on top and offers some nice vibes for the opening of a set The post TRACKS OF THE MOMENT | GNTN appeared first on The Techno Kittens. Source: Techno Kittens
  4. Kicking off our new feature ‘Tracks of The Moment’ is Warm Up head honcho Aidan Doherty. Picking out five tracks that are tickling his fancy right now, Aidan has curated one dreamy playlist for us. As well as establishing Warm Up as one of the seminal party brands of London, Aidan has built a solid DJ career with a number of high profile gigs both internationally and at home in the UK. He’s supported the likes of Max Cooper, Stephan Bodzin, Marc Romboy, Extrawelt, Christian Löffler, Rone, Dominik Eulberg, Oliver Huntemann, and many other globally renowned artists as well as taking the helm as one of the many talented residents of the Warm Up brand. He’s also the man behind some rather exciting and underground parties taking place in the outdoors and at some epic warehouse venues across London as part of WUITW. Aidan has penned a few words (below) to go along with each track, telling us what makes each one so special to him. It makes for a great read and you can feel the passion and love that he has for his art radiating from these. He really is one of the nicest and passionate DJs around and has exquisite music taste. And doesn’t he look good as a techno kitten? Enjoy! 1 – Rodriguez Jr – Monticello The big man has really nailed it with this one. It’s a great combination of rawness and softness, light and shade. The track starts with a fast heavy kick, the groove is immediately thrust upon you and has a big impact. At first you might think it’s a dark banging techno track but he then brings in the softness over the top, the very delicate beautiful melodic aspects. The melodic story telling in this track is just perfect, its emotive, its dreamy, its warm and loving, add this to heavy rolling rhythm/groove and magic happens. His whole album was top. 2 – Edu Imbernon, Duologue – Underworld (Undercatt Remix) Undercatt has absolutely nailed this remix. The bass line is incredibly warm and juicy and rolls at a prefect pace, it is a truly emotional track layered with lots of gorgeous harmonies and pretty intricate sounds that ping and bounce off each other. It’s all held together by the lovely vocal that gives the track it’s extra special element. Again, it’s another very emotive track that has always caused lots hands in the air/eyes closed dance floor moments. Dropping this at WUITW a few weeks back as the sun came up gave me goosebumps and nearly made me cry. 3 – BOg, Tim Engelhardt – Scene 1 Well, what can I say, these two rising stars are absolutely smashing the scene right now! I think Tim is my most played artist ever, literally every set I play these days has a Tim E track in it. I also really love BOg’s work so when these to masters came together to make “Scene 1” the result was amazing! Ive been playing this one a lot, its one of those freaky tracks that kind of send your head spinning. The groove is awesome, its punchy and whacky but also holds a really nice melodic element. Wicked track from the boys, hopefully you will see them both here in London playing for Warm Up soon..! 4 – Allies for Everyone – Song for peace of mind I bought this track a few months back but haven’t played it out yet, maybe I will never play it out, I’m not sure. Its one of those very emotional warm tracks maybe better suited for podcasts. It makes me feel really happy, the melody is beautiful crafted and combine that with all those delightful organic little sounds throughout, this track really is a winner in my eyes. Warmth, emotion and love. 5 – Underspreche – Jaraï (Original Mix) What a trip this one is! I played this track at 7am at WUITW the other week, wasn’t sure how people would react, as soon as that vocal came in the crowd became hypnotised by its spiritual and ritualistic rhythm. It really does capture peoples attention. Its minimal, its deep, its a masterful work of art and also a great track if you want to change direction during a set and create a whole new vibe to start building from. When I play long sets I love throwing in freaky tunes like this one, keeps the crowd on their toes and brings a nice dynamic. 5. HE LOOKED like a man who'd just lost his daughter and now didn't know how the world stitched together. But she was already inflight. Now at the side of single-seat sofa, now perched on his armrest, now clasping Dad's head to her ample bosom. "There, there," she cooed, "It will be alright." No, it wouldn’t. Embarrassment scarred Dad's cheeks, offset by the wan light slanting in from the window of Ginny's lounge behind. We children looked on aghast. This was my father, you understand, a man I'd grown up loving and fearing in equal measure. A man who'd hunted for the government, crusading into the wilds of New Zealand for weeks at a time to shoot feral hog and deer with only his catch and bay dogs for company. Sometimes even going mano a pigo with the boars, creeping up on them - I always imagined with his hunting knife clenched between his teeth - to stick them and gut them, and carry the carcass out on his back. A man who'd graduated forestry school and was a logger who felled giant Pinus Radiata and Douglas Fir and always brought home the best Christmas trees, and who one day was carried out of the bush on the blades of a skidder after chainsawing his thigh open to the bone. I always imagined that only happened after he finished felling the tree, one-legged. But an affable man, also. A social man. The type of man who would suffer in silence the indignity of a hug from a heaving stranger - an old 'moo' for moo-cow he would call her later - because she’d come bearing sliver of good, and because it was the civil and mannered procedure. So: one half of my father’s face pressed into folds of jiggly flesh, and red, and we children aghast - and strange as it may sound it was at this moment, this surreal, tragically misread moment, that the scheme first began to shape in my mind. * * * * This blog is a story.
