  1. CHAPTER 1. I TIGHTENED on Sam's troubled expression. He bit his bottom lip and stared back up the path. "But how do you know, Izz?" "Because we're part of something bro," I said, "can't you feel it?" I panned away from him, out over the lookout's edge. Out and over and down to where the Riwaka Valley lay shimmering under the sharp southern sun like some great, sea-coloured serpent. Coiling to the distant Cooks Straight it was a view to intoxicate, deep and wide and wholly alive, and I drank it in, was drunk on it, and when I returned to Sam, Joseph was at his side. "Yeah, Sam," Joseph said, "can't you feel it?" Sam shoved him away. "I’ll tell you what I'm feeling. I'm feeling like that taxi driver just took off with all of our stuff." Sam had a point. Ten minutes before on his own initiative our taxi driver had pulled into the Hawkes Lookout car park and insisted we check out the view.To sonnets of praise for the vistas presented my three buds - Sam, Joseph, Tim - and I were shooed out of his van, and soon after, still loaded with our gear, we watched as the van disappeared. "Popping in for a cuppa at my mates around the corner," the driver said. "No worries," we replied and waved goodbye. Then, we'd gone to check out the view. The way Sam said it now it did sound kind of, ahh, stupid. But then, in those tall midsummer days of late 1999, after driving eight hours the length of New Zealand's North Island in raucous convoy - a convoy complete with blinker signals for toilet, food and spliff breaks - two days of twenty of us charging around Nelson, and one tremendous twilight piss-up in a park - before the temporary separation, reduction to the four of us now, in the taxi van, for the final drive in: after all that, boy, we were so amped to be on the last stage of our journey, so full of our youthful almighties and so sure of our righteous positivity, it simply didn't register anybody might want to steal all of our stuff. Other people's maybe, but not ours. I said, "Sam that guy loved yarning to us. He'll be back." "Hell, he'd probably come with us if we asked," Joseph added. Sam snorted. “I hope you’re right. Because I don't want to be the one telling the cops we left everything with a stranger - let that stranger drive off - and then went off on a hike to sight see." We laughed. We weren't worried. Life was too glorious to us then to worry. "Give him half-an-hour, bro," Joseph said. "Come on, let’s go have a chuff." * * * * This blog is a story. Each post picks up from the last. 7. After releasing ‘Sing It Back’ featuring the gorgeous vocals of Becky Hill, Pete Tong releases the 2nd Single off the forthcoming ‘Ibiza Classics’ album: ‘Promised Land’ feat Disciples. Pete Tong (featuring the talented Heritage Orchestra & Jules Buckley) thrilled Sydney & Melbourne with their LIVE ‘Ibiza Classics’ Show 2 weeks ago. Featuring the stunning vocals of local guests: Connie Mitchell (Sneaky Sound System), Remi and Thandi Phoenix. Some of Dance Music’s classics, were re-imagined with an awe inspiring 65 piece orchestra! They followed it up with a mesmerizing show at the iconic ‘Hollywood Bowl’ last week! “We’re celebrating some music with an incredible heritage and history,” Tong says. “Often, dance and electronic music [history] doesn’t necessarily receive the plaudits it deserves in the same way rock & roll history does. But a lot of this music that we’re playing is a soundtrack to many people’s lives all over the world. ... These songs really mattered a lot to them. To be able to go and re-perform them with an orchestra, I think, adds importance to the music.” - Pete Tong explains to LA Weekly PETE TONG PRESENTS THE NEXT INSTALMENT OF HIS SERIES WITH THE HERITAGE ORCHESTRA & JULES BUCKLEY: ‘IBIZA CLASSICS’ TITLE: IBIZA CLASSICS ARTIST: PETE TONG WITH THE HERITAGE ORCHESTRA & JULES BUCKLEY LEAD SINGLE: ‘SING IT BACK’ FT BECKY HILL (SEE LINK BELOW) 2ND SINGLE: ‘PROMISED LAND’ FT DISCIPLES (SEE LINK BELOW) LABEL: UNIVERSAL MUSIC AUSTRALIA RELEASE DATE: DECEMBER 1, 2017 No need for introductions when it comes to the authority on all things dance music, Pete Tong (MBE), DJ, Producer & iconic Radio Host on BBC Radio 1, returns with his incredible Orchestral series, this time giving his favourite Ibiza Classics the symphonic treatment. Pete Tong has held a commanding presence over the industry for more than two decades. His unique position has earned him a reputation as the global ambassador of dance music. With an unparalleled ear for new talent, Tong has become the leading tastemaker of the electronic generation. While he’s known publicly as Pete Tong the DJ, behind the scenes, he’s an industry icon. In Brief: Universal Music is excited to announce that Pete Tong ‘Ibiza Classics’ with The Heritage Orchestra, directed by Chris Wheeler and conducted by Jules Buckley, will be released through the label December 1. ‘Ibiza Classics’ is the follow-up to the Number One 2016 album by Pete Tong: ‘Classic House.’ A landmark record that saw the dance pioneer rework classic Ibiza dances tunes with an orchestra. A collaboration with arranger and conductor Jules Buckley, the record became the biggest selling debut of 2016. To date, it has sold over 270,000 copies. For the follow-up, Tong combines the euphoric experience of touring Classic House alongside Buckley and the Heritage Orchestra, with knowledge accrued over four decades immersed in dance music culture. Says Tong: “Watching Jules and these fantastically classically-trained musicians and this arena full of people partying, I was thinking: ‘We need to do this again.’ The question was: how could we do it again, but differently?” The answer is ‘Ibiza Classics.’ The Classic House album sought to capture something that had already taken place – an album kickstarted by the celebrated one-off show at London’s Royal Albert Hall, to mark 20 years of Radio 1 Ibiza coverage. From a clean slate, Tong was able to draw on his prestigious contact book, reaching out to the likes of: Seal, Craig David, Candi Staton and Jessie Ware, as well as rising stars Becky Hill and Raye to name but a few, giving the new album a more featured-artists feel as well. The bulk of the album was recorded at producer Mark Ralph’s studio in west London and programmer Dennis White’s studio in Putney. “They were like the Creative Control Centres of the thing,” says Tong. “Last time it was performance first, record second, but this time I started the project from a programming and arrangement perspective with Mark and Dennis. Then we had the Heritage Orchestra’s band going into the studio and playing on top of what we did and adding in the live elements.” For the final piece of the puzzle, Buckley arranged the tracks for the wider, 65-piece Heritage Orchestra, recording with them over five days in London’s Air Studios. Following last year’s sold out UK arena tour, another run of arena shows await, including: two at The O2 in London, as well as engagements in Australia (see dates below) and at LA’s Hollywood Bowl. Never one to rest on past achievements, Pete Tong is making music as exhilarating as anything he’s done before. “It feels appropriate to be celebrating the legacy of dance music. This is the soundtrack to so many people’s lives.” The Heritage Orchestra was co-founded by Buckley and Chris Wheeler in 2004. Wheeler has produced numerous orchestral shows with artists ranging from Björk, Aphex Twin, Goldie, Massive Attack and Giorgio Moroder. Together they have pushed orchestral music into new territory and established one of the most refreshing independent orchestras in the world, bridging the gap between electronic music and the concert hall. It helps no doubt that The Heritage Orchestra first came to being in the clubs of East London, amidst the underground dance music scene. Jules Buckley is a musical pioneer who pushes the boundaries of orchestral music. He has collaborated with artists as diverse as: Arctic Monkeys, Benjamin Clementine, Emeli Sandé and Dizzee Rascal, picked up a Grammy for his work with Snarky Puppy and is one of the most in-demand conductors and arrangers working today. Dance music’s most potent game-changer has just reset the rules again. IBIZA CLASSICS TRACKLISTING: 01 Clubbed To Death 02 Galvanize Feat Rejjie Snow 03 Body Language Feat. Raye 04 Killer Feat. 8. Still fresh off the news of his Atlanta NYE special event and the announcement of a headline appearance at Buku, Bassnectar has been focused on mastering and promoting his Reflective: Part Two EP, out December 1 on Amorphous Records. The bass music powerhouse recently teased the first single off the project, an earth-shattering track with Wakaan’s own Digital Ethos. Now, Bassnectar shares another single featuring Dorfex Bos, which follows their initial “Horizons” collaboration on part one of the Reflective EP. Their sophomore collaboration, “Other Worlds,” while equally celestial and downtempo to its core, will take listeners into a completely different direction, instilling the two tracks with a yin and yang type of relationship. “Other Worlds” utilizes a similar sound design as “Horizons,” with a repetitive grinding synth and “Shepard’s tone” effect that creates an auditory illusion effect on the ear, where listeners feel the tension as constant and never-ending. With each drop, however, rather than being taken down into a seismic direction, listeners are lifted a bit higher into the cosmos and gently dropped off on the track’s sublime lead out. The result is a track that is reminiscent of some 1980s Hans Zimmer-scored sci-fi film, taking listeners on a ride that goes up and down and around and round. “Other Worlds” was inspired by a new collage from Sebastian Wahl, which we brought to life with the help of Black Lake Media. The collage shows portals emerge and unfold and evolve within and around a picture frame… a magical gateway, like the wardrobe in The Chronicles of Narnia. On a sunny day in Brooklyn I sat down with Dorfex Bos to write a piece of music to go along with the visuals, and the ideas just came pouring out. We finished the song in 24 hours flat, with various instruments and sounds mapped to various details and dimensions of the various worlds within the collage. Pre-order for Bassnectar’s Reflective: Part Two EP is available November 17, 2017. UPDATE: Bassnectar has just released the EP’s official tracklist, which includes his long-awaited remixes of Eprom‘s “Pineapple” and Naux Faux‘s “Psyopia,” along with a previously-teased track ID with G Jones that Ashton premiered at Hulaween a few weeks ago. Tracklist: 1. Bassnectar & Dorfex Bos – Other Worlds 2. Bassnectar & Digital Ethos – Slather 3. Bassnectar & Peekaboo – Disrupt The System ft. Azeem 4. Bassnectar & G Jones – Chromatek 5. 15. Much like Porter Robinson’s live edit of “Fresh Static Snow,” Illenium has crafted an absolutely out of this world live edit to his remix of Flume’s “Say It.” The VIP has been in his sets since at least Electric Forest this year, possibly even earlier. The vocals come in as they do in his original remix, but the drop descends into absolute sonic madness with heavily distorted bass and bone crunching percussion, accompanied by visuals that perfectly match the vibe. The video below was taken at this year’s debut Lost Lands festival, created by Excision. Will this VIP ever see the light of day as an official release? Who knows… but the Illenium fam is strong and dedicated, there’s sure to be a live HQ rip floating around soon. This article was first published on Your EDM.
